Photographer Moshe Brakha’s acidly crisp, otherworldly images evoke a certain stylistic sensibility and a knack for innovative and sensual photography that engages the viewer. L.A. Babe: The Real Women of Los Angeles 1975-1988 collects his most compelling subjects from the late seventies and early eighties - the various women he encountered all over Los Angeles. The book includes vintage portraits of legendary proto-punk band The Runaways, LaToya and Janet Jackson, Patricia Arquette, longtime Los Angeles scenemaker Angelyne, and many, many others. From Beverly Hills High School cheerleaders to brash bartenders and groupies, L.A. Babe captures the essential Los Angeles at its sunniest, coolest, grittiest glam and punk peak.
In a career spanning five decades, Moshe Brakha has created scores of iconic editorial images including work for the legendary Wet: The Magazine of Gourmet Bathing and Beyond, and album covers for the likes of Devo, The Ramones, Sparks, Neil Young, Cat Stevens, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, Pat Benatar, The Weirdos, and Alice Coltrane.
