JOHN GOSSAGE: THERE AND GONE / ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FOUR PHOTOGRAPHS - THE NEAR-UNIQUE DELUXE SIGNED LIMITED BOXED EDITION WITH A SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH
(GOSSAGE, JOHN). Gossage, John & Thomas Weski. Berlin: Nazraeli Press, 1997. First Deluxe Edition. 4to. Cloth in Dust Jacket, Boxed. Photography Monograph. Fine/Fine. 160pp + 16pp, 124 duotone illustrations. Text in English and German. This is the lovely hardbound catalogue published in conjunction with the 1997 John Gossage exhibition entitled "There and Gone" that travelled from Hannover's Sprengel Museum to Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College. It features reproductions of each of the photographs shown, and includes a sixteen page insert containing a transcribed interview between Gossage and curator Thomas Weski. According to Chris Pichler, Nazraeli Press planned to produce a deluxe boxed edition of one hundred and forty-four copies with an ISBN separate from the trade edition - each retailing for nine hundred and fifty dollars and containing a single unique photograph from the one hundred and forty-four images in the book. Ten clamshell boxes were fabricated in Japan, and John Gossage agreed to produce and supply the prints as orders were received. Unfortunately, the first two copies ordered were returned to Nazraeli by the purchasers who objected to Mr. Gossage's insistence on splashing a few drops of coffee on the mat of each of the original prints as an artistic gesture, and the entire project was then scrapped. Only between three and five vintage completed copies of this near-unique edition exist. A most handsome example of the exceedingly uncommon unnumbered deluxe edition BOLDLY SIGNED by John Gossage in black ink on the first preliminary housed in the publisher's debossed and silkscreened black clamshell box, as issued. Laid in is a 4 x 2 ¾" black and white silver gelatin print of a woman's silhouette at the water's edge (reproduced on page 39 of the book) mounted on a 10 x 8" sheet of board SIGNED "John Gossage 1996 / p 39" in pencil on the verso, as issued. It shows the small coffee splash to the board on the recto, which was the intent of the photographer. 3-923922-50-7 Inventory Number: 022704

INFIDEL - FIRST EDITION SIGNED BY TIM HETHERINGTON
(HETHERINGTON, TIM). Hetherington, Tim. Introduction by Sebastian Junger. London: Chris Boot Ltd., 2010. First Edition. 8vo. Flexible Boards with Pastedown. Photography Monograph. Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. 240pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Designed by SMITH. "Infidel" is an intimate portrait of a single U.S. platoon assigned to an outpost in the Korengal Valley - an area considered one of the most dangerous Afghan postings in the war against the Taliban - but it is as much about love and male vulnerability as it is about bravery and war. Embedded with writer Sebastian Junger, and shooting over the course of one year, the late photographer Tim Hetherington made a series of images that prove surprisingly tender in their depiction of camaraderie and vulnerability. Alongside revealing interviews with Hetherington's subjects and an introduction by Junger (with whom Hetherington co-directed the award-winning film "Restrepo" about the work of the battalion), the book is also illustrated with graphics of the tattoos the soldiers gave each other in the camp. The title is taken from the tattoo the men adopted as a badge of their comradeship. Warm, moving and full of humor, this book is a tribute to the "rough men ready to do violence on our behalf" and a provocative contribution to the documentation of war in our time". A brand new, most handsome example of the exceedingly uncommon 2010 first edition of this gritty modern classic (cited on page 208 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume III") additionally SIGNED "Tim Hetherington" in black ink on the title page at our shop during one of the photographer's visits. 1-905712-18-9 Inventory Number: 026015

Please join us on Sunday, June 18th (4:00 - 6:00 PM) for a Book Signing and Panel moderated by Kristine McKenna with Van Dyke Parks, Maria Muldaur, Jim Kweskin, and Hot Licks guitarist Paul Robinson!
This vivid memoir of a man described as “one of America’s greatest songwriters” by Elvis Costello, and a cat that was “fly, sly, wily, and dry” by Tom Waits. Dan Hicks had a front-row seat to the birth and death of counter culture -- San Francisco, 1966 -- it would affect both him and his music.
"I Scare Myself" captures the highs and lows of a lifelong adventure in music. You’ll get to see Hicks’ memories of one of the changes the sixties brought, working with great musicians, plus, a foreword by Elvis Costello, afterword by producer Tommy LiPuma, and annotations by his close friend Kristine McKenna.
“I just started taking ingredients I liked and putting them together to see what came out,” Hicks writes. What came out was an amazing blend of complex time signatures, unusual instrumentation, and intricate vocal harmonies that took him to the top of the 70s rock world but also into a downward spiral of drink and drug abuse.
Hicks passed away in early 2016, but his music, and the stories he tells here, remain as fresh and irresistible as ever. I Scare Myself takes readers on a journey behind the music, and into the life and mind of the fantastic artist who created it.
PLEASE NOTE: Books will be signed by Ms. McKenna on June 18th, and posted starting Tuesday, June 20th.

"For over 25 years, Hido has crafted narratives through loose and mysterious suburban scenes, desolate landscapes, and cinematic portraits. Irrespective of its title, this is a book about hope and beauty and why we seek it so desperately at this time. For his latest images he has roamed as far as the Hawaiian Islands and their meteorological opposites; the shores of the Bering Sea, and Nordic fjords above the Arctic Circle. Even with such geographic diversity, Hido captures places that feel at once familiar and unknown; welcoming and unsettling. With this stunning new monograph, Hido picks up where his previous title "Bright Black World" left off, presenting some eighty new and previously unpublished landscape photographs. "The End Sends Advance Warning" is beautifully printed on heavyweight art paper and bound in offset printed linen. The book also includes nine tipped-in photographs printed on Kasadaka art paper, as well as tipped-in and laid-in booklets. A masterpiece of an artist’s book, and a must for the serious contemporary art library." Designed to function as a companion to that title as well as a sovereign object in its own right, the selection includes alternate images that didn't make it into the book, as well as variations of images that did. It offers a behind-the-scenes look at how the photographer selects and arranges images in book form. 'Making good and interesting pictures is only half of what it takes to make a memorable visual book,' Hido explains. 'The way one organizes images to create a narrative sequence also plays an important role in creating something that people want to pick up and take home". A brand new, most handsome example of this charming little set of fifty collector-type trading cards additionally BOLDLY SIGNED "Todd Hido" in silver ink on the title card housed in the publisher's Plexiglas box, as issued. 1-59005-409-1 Inventory Number: 026720

Exploring the dark terrain of the Northern European landscape and regions as far as the North Sea of Japan enchanted Hido, calling him back on several occasions. This presents the artist’s first significant foray extensively photographing territory outside of the United States, chronicling a decidedly new psychological geography.
