FELIX GONZALEZ-TORRES
(GONZALEZ-TORRES, FELIX ). Ault, Julie, Editor. Gottingen, GERMANY: Steidl Dangin, 2006. First Edition. 4to. Cloth in Pictorial Dust Jacket. Artist Monograph. As New/As New. 412pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Text in English. Designed by Pascal Dangin. With a chronology, bibliography and exhibition history. "Felix Gonzalez-Torres, one of the most influential artists of his generation, lived and worked resolutely according to his own democratic ideology, determined to "make this a better place for everyone." Combining principles of conceptual art, minimalism, political activism and poetic beauty, Gonzalez-Torres's ever-changing arsenal included public billboards, give-away piles of candy or posters, and ordinary objects (clocks, mirrors, light fixtures) often used to startling effect. His work challenged the notions of public and private space, originality, authorship and most significantly, the authoritative structure in which he functioned. In the spirit of the artist's method, Julie Ault has amassed a comprehensive monograph of this important artist that rethinks the very idea of what a monograph should be. The book places strong emphasis on the written word, and contains texts by Robert Storr, Robert Nickas, Russell Ferguson, Lewis Baltz, Nancy Spector, Joseph Kosuth, and Miwon Kwon among other notables, as well as significant critical essays, exhibition statements, transcripts from lectures, personal correspondence, and writings that influenced Gonzalez-Torres and his work. With ample visual documentation, we see works not just in their finality, but often witness their transformation over a lifespan. This collection is a critical reference for the history of contemporary art". A brand new, most handsome example of the 2006 first edition. 3-86521-196-8 Inventory Number: 025024

ALEC SOTH: SONGBOOK - SIGNED AND DATED BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER
(SOTH, ALEC). Soth, Alec. London: MACK, 2015. First Edition. 4to. Debossed Padded Boards. Photography Monograph. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. np (144pp), 75 tritone illustrations. Designed by Alec Soth and Gregoire Pujade-Lauraine. "Known for his haunting portraits of solitary Americans in "Sleeping by the Mississippi" and "Broken Manual", Alec Soth has recently turned his lens toward community life in the country. To aid in his search, Soth assumed the increasingly obsolescent role of community newspaper reporter. From 2012 to 2014, Soth traveled state by state while working on his self-published newspaper, "The LBM Dispatch", as well as on assignment for the "New York Times" and others. From upstate New York to Silicon Valley, Soth attended hundreds of meetings, dances, festivals and communal gatherings in search of human interaction in an era of virtual social networks. With "Songbook", Soth has stripped these pictures of their news context in order to highlight the longing for connection at their root. Fragmentary, funny and sad, "Songbook" is a lyrical depiction of the tension between American individualism and the desire to be united". A brand new, pristine example of the 2015 first MACK printing of this awesome undertaking (cited on page 260 of Fred Ritchin and Carole Naggar's "Magnum Photobook: A Catalogue Raisonné") additionally BOLDLY SIGNED AND DATED "Alec Soth 2015" in the year of publication in black ink on the title page. 1-910164-02-X Inventory Number: 024756

CHRISTIAN PATTERSON: REDHEADED PECKERWOOD - SIGNED BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER
(PATTERSON, CHRISTIAN). Patterson, Christian, Luc Sante & Karen Irvine. London: MACK, 2011. First Edition. Small 4to. Pictorial Boards. Photography Monograph. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. np (168pp) + np (14pp), 98 illustrations in color and b&w. Designed by Christian Patterson. "Redheaded Peckerwood is a work with a tragic underlying narrative - the story of nineteen year old Charles Starkweather and fourteen year old Caril Ann Fugate who murdered ten people, including Fugate's family, during a three day killing spree across Nebraska to the point of their capture in Douglas, Wyoming. From a technical perspective, the photographs incorporate and reference the techniques of photojournalism, forensic photography, image appropriation, reenactment and documentary landscape photography. On a conceptual level, they deal with a charged landscape and play with a photographic representation and truth as the work deconstructs a pre-existing narrative. "Redheaded Peckerwood" also utilizes and plays with a pre-existing archive of material, deliberately mixing fact and fiction, past and present, myth and reality as it presents, expands and re-presents the various facts and theories surrounding this story. While photographs are the heart of this work, they are the complemented and informed by documents and objects that belonged to the killers and their victims - including a map, poem, confession letter, stuffed animal, hood ornament and various other items. In several cases, these materials are discoveries first made by the artist and presented here for the first time. The images record places and things central to the story, depict ideas inspired by it, and capture other moments and discoveries along the way". The Starkweather and Fugate killings inspired the films "The Sadist (1963)", "Badlands (1973)", "Murder in the Heartland (2003)", "Kalifornia (1993)", "Natural Born Killers (1994)", and "Starkweather (2004)". A brand new, pristine example of the uncommon 2011 first MACK edition (cited on pages 279 and 309 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume III") additionally SIGNED "Christian Patterson" in black ink on the title page with the publisher's fourteen page staple-bound newsprint booklet laid in. 1-907946-14-4 Inventory Number: 024752

HOUSE OF COATES - SIGNED BY ALEC SOTH
(SOTH, ALEC). Zellar, Brad & Alec Soth (as Lester B. Morrison). St. Paul, MN: Little Brown Mushroom, 2012. First Edition 1/1000. 8vo. Spiral Bound Boards. Photography Monograph. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. np (118pp), profusely illustrated in color. Designed by Hans Seeger. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. "In House of Coates, writer Brad Zellar pieces together the story of legendary recluse Lester B. Morrison. Working from a handful of encounters and contradictory conversations, a sketchy paper trail and often confounding interviews with individuals who may or may not have been "associates" of Morrison (including Morrison's former collaborator Alec Soth), Zellar attempts to reconstruct one episode from Morrison's decidedly episodic life. In the winter of 2011, Zellar finally crossed paths with his evasive subject, and was with Morrison's permission granted access to the results of a Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory test that Morrison submitted to in August of 2009, along with the administrating psychiatrist's copious notes. Finally, in late December of last year, Zellar received in the mail a duct-taped shoebox marked "PERISHABLE" containing almost two hundred photographs that Morrison termed "disposable documents of the approximate period in question". From these raw materials designer Hans Seeger has assembled a book that Morrison himself has pronounced, "probably close enough to what might or might not have happened, and that’'s as much as I've learned to expect from the so-called real world". A brand new, most handsome example of the 2012 first Little Brown Mushroom edition of this quirky document (cited on page 260 of Fred Ritchin and Carole Naggar's "Magnum Photobook: A Catalogue Raisonné") in green spiral binding limited to one thousand unnumbered copies additionally BOLDLY SIGNED "Alec Soth" in black ink on the title page. 0-9839990-1-5 Inventory Number: 024714
