PAUL KLEE: NOTEBOOKS VOLUME 1 - THE THINKING EYE

(KLEE, PAUL). Klee, Paul. Jurg Spiller, Editor. Translated from the German by Ralph Manheim. New York. 1961 (1964).: George Wittenborn, Inc.. Second, Revised Edition (First Thus). Stout Square 4to. Cloth in Illustrated Jacket. Artist Monograph. Very Good/Good -. 542pp, profusely illustrated in b&w and color. Published as the fifteenth installment of the Robert Motherwell-edited Wittenborn series "The Documents of Modern Art", this is the first of two volumes of translated writings by the renowned late Swiss artist and Bauhaus instructor Paul Klee. Distilled from over twenty-five hundred pages of text, this massive study beautifully illustrates Klee's ideas on form and artistic creation with reproductions from sketchbooks, drawings and paintings. An internally handsome example of the 1964 Wittenborn second, revised edition whose dust jacket is notably soiled, creased, worn, chipped, and torn with some paper loss and tape repair to the verso. It has been priced accordingly.
