AL RUPPERSBERG: A COLBY POSTER COMPANY-PRINTED POSTER / ARTWORK FOR "AL'S CAFE: GALA CELEBRATION 1969-1979"

(RUPPERSBERG, ALLEN). Ruppersberg, Allen. Los Angeles: Allen Ruppersberg & Rosamund Felsen Gallery, 1979. First Edition. Folio. Printed Poster. Artist's Multiple. Fine.. One 22 x 14" sheet of heavy cardboard printed in monochrome offset on a coated surface recto only, 1 illustration. Designed by Allen Ruppersberg. This is the very cool poster cum artwork published in 1979 for the tenth anniversary celebration and recreation of Ruppersberg's 1969 installation, "Al's Café", at the Rosamund Felsen Gallery. Designed by Al, it was produced at The Colby Poster Company - the legendary Los Angeles commercial printer of boxing-style posters that collaborated with the noted Conceptual practitioner on his similarly fabricated cardboard artworks for over thirty years. The text reads in blue against a white background; "Al's Café / 1913 W. 6th St. Los Angeles / Best in Town / 1969 Gala Celebration 1979 / Rosamund Felsen Gallery / 669 N. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles" interspersed with linocut images of a cup of coffee, plate of doughnuts, slice of pie, and a satisfied diner. A brand new, most handsome example of the uncommon first and only printing of this cheerful artwork a full page illustration of which appears on page 7 of "Allen Ruppersberg: One of Many - Origins and Variants." Inventory Number: 027231
