PRAIRIE FIRE: THE POLITICS OF REVOLUTIONARY ANTI-IMPERIALISM - POLITICAL STATEMENTS OF THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND
(WEATHER UNDERGROUND, THE). Dohrn, Bernardine, Billy Ayers, Jeff Jones & Celia Sojourn. NP (Printed Underground in the US for the People): Red Dragon Print Collective & Weather Underground, 1974. Edition Not Stated - Presumed First. 4to. Printed Wrappers. Very Good - .. 154pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. With a bibliography. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Edited by Bernardine Dohrn, Billy Ayers, Jeff Jones, and Celia Sojourn - the primary members of the anarchic Weather Underground Organization - and published mostly in bootlegged editions during the mid-seventies, "Prairie Fire…" is a collection of manifestos and texts from around the world devoted to sixties revolutionary thought and action. Anti-Imperialism, The Vietnam War, student radicalism, Black Power, Native American rights, the Women's Movement, and many more aspects of the Sixties are presented here in exceedingly lo-fi fashion for inquisitive radical minds. The current Wikipedia entry for Weather Underground member Scott Braley states "In 1973, the Weather Underground Organization established a printing operation called the Red Dragon Print Collective, a venture which Braley helped run. Operating out of a soundproof apartment, the print collective was a formative part of the Weather Underground Organization for its final three years. The Red Dragon Print Collective was responsible for producing the Weather Underground Organization's book "Prairie Fire." All printing, binding, and collating of materials was done by the members themselves. As a precaution, work was done wearing gloves to ensure that no fingerprints would be left." Most contemporaneous versions of "Prairie Fire…" display a retail price printed on the front cover, and do not attribute publication to the Weather Underground. This copy does not show any form of pricing, and boldly credits "Red Dragon Print Collective and Weather Underground" as the publishers on the rear cover. This leads us to believe that this an authorized - if not first - printing by The Weather Underground themselves. An internally bright, most handsome example of this notorious and influential compendium of the decade's politics showing some wear along with a few creases and water spots to its bright red covers.
