ALBERS: HOMAGE TO THE SQUARE (40 NEW PAINTINGS BY JOSEF ALBERS, SEPTEMBER 28 THROUGH OCTOBER 24, 1964, SIDNEY JANIS, 15 EAST 57, NEW YORK)
(ALBERS, JOSEF). Albers, Josef. New York: Sidney Janis Gallery, 1964. First Edition. Oblong 4to. Printed Wrappers. Artist Monograph. Good.. np (10pp), 4 color screenprint illustrations. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. This is the elegantly minimal publication that accompanied legendary abstract artist, Bauhaus design teacher, and Yale University Art department chair Josef Albers' 1964 exhibition of forty "Homage to the Square" paintings held at New York's Sidney Janis Gallery. It reproduces a brief text by the artist as well as four exhibited works in the form of vibrantly colored, unsigned individual screenprints. An internally bright, handsome example with crisp plates showing showing a half-inch diagonal soft crease through the top edge of the textblock at the spine not affecting the images in any way along with some light wear, age-toning, and soiling to its matte white covers. It has been priced accordingly. Inventory Number: 026889
