BLACK POWER IN THE URBAN GHETTO: AN INTERCOLLEGIATE CONFERENCE (NOV. 10-12, OBERLIN COLLEGE, OBERLIN OHIO)
Wachtel, Alan, Bonnie Beshears, Robert Goertz, Margaret Eckel & Bernie Arons. Oberlin, OH: The Oberlin Chapter of the National Student Association & Oberlin Action For Civil Rights, 1966. Edition Not Stated - Presumed First. 4to. Stapled Illustrated Wrappers. Near Fine.. np (36pp), 1 cover illustration. With a bibliography. "Black Power in the Urban Ghetto: An Intercollegiate Conference" is the very lo-fi handout that greeted attendees of a November 1966 Oberlin College academic forum on the subject. The introduction states "The purpose of these papers is to eliminate the emotionalism which clouds the current debate on Black Power and try to point out the basic issues involved." It includes numerous brief excerpts from the writings of Stokely Carmichael, Bayard Rustin, Langston Hughes, LeRoi Jones, Franklin Frazier, Martin Luther King, Jr., I.F. Stone, David Danzig, and others. A well-preserved example of this uncommon - only a single copy is currently cited in OCLC WorldCat - early document of the sixties Black Power movement showing some light wear, creasing, soiling, and age-toning to the covers.
