    SALVADOR DALI: A 1955 SILVER GELATIN PHOTOGRAPH OF THE ARTIST ABOARD THE S.S. AMERICA - SIGNED BY DALI

    (DALI, SALVADOR). Dali, Salvador. NP (Somewhere Le Havre, FRANCE and New York): The S.S. America, 1955. First Edition. Oblong 12mo. Silver Gelatin Photograph. Near Fine.. One 5 x 7" silver gelatin print printed recto only. This is a candid portrait of noted Surrealist pioneer Salvador Dali photographed in 1955 aboard the luxury liner S.S. America. Likely taken by one of the ship's staff photographers, it depicts the artist dapper in suit, tie, and with his cane posing with another gentleman in what appears to be a dining area. A nicely preserved example of this no doubt unique vintage silver gelatin print on single weight glossy paper bearing the stamp "S.S. America in black ink and BOLDLY SIGNED AND DATED "Dali / 1955" by the maestro in black ink on the verso showing a few creases that can be seen in raking light. Inventory Number: 026673
