Published in 1963, "Book of the Hopi" is noted Western historian and author Frank Waters' collaboration with renowned Hopi artist Oswald White Bear Fredericks that presents for the first time in written form transcribed revelations by thirty Oraibi elders of Northern Arizona regarding their "Road of Life" - the orally transmitted teachings of the Hopi world-view, mythology, and ceremonies which had until this book been kept secret for countless generations. An internally handsome example of the 1964 Viking Press second printing of this influential, scholarly tome that author Waters refers to as "The Hopi Bible" showing some mild staining to the foredge and half title page due to some contatct with moisture along with some abrading through the cloth to the boards underneath at the lower foredge tips additionally SIGNED AND INSCRIBED WITH A SMALL DRAWING "In friendship and brotherhood / from Hopiland ------ / With best wishes / White Bear / Hopi / 1968" by the book's interviewer, translator, and illustrator in blue ink on the verso of the half title page. The publisher's brittle dust jacket is present though heavily worn, creased, torn, stained, and tape-repaired with some paper loss along the extremities. It has been priced accordingly.
