Printed by James Lanier at the press of Igal Roodenko, "The Way of the Woodcut" was the third in a series of keepsakes published by the Pratt (Institute) Adlib Press under the direction of Fritz Eichenberg. Munakata was a guest instructor at the Pratt Graphic Art Center where he created three woodcuts entiled "At New York (Self Portrait)", "No Footprints Show, Where the Flowers Grow Deep", and "The Child Plants an Oak Tree in the Garden" printed from the original blocks especially for this edition. An internally most handsome example of this uncommon item limited to fifteen hundred copies whose debossed black wrappers show some typical sunning along the extremities.
