Published in 1964, "Various Small Fires and Milk" is Edward Ruscha's second photographically illustrated artist book - a humorous cataloguing of flames and a glass of milk. A bright white, most handsome example of the 1970 second edition (entry B2 in Siri Engberg's "Edward Ruscha: Editions 1959-1999" which is also cited on pages 198-201 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book" and 140 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume II") limited to three thousand unnumbered copies in the publisher's notably creased, chipped, and torn original glassine wrapper showing some paper loss along the extremities. A white adhesive label reading "American Distributor: / Wittenborn and Company / 1018 Madison Ave., New York, N.Y. 10021" is affixed to the inside of the rear cover. It has been priced accordingly.
