GUGLIELMO PLUSCHOW: EROTIC PHOTOGRAPHS
(PLUSCHOW, GUGLIELMO). Weiermair, Peter. Koln, GERMANY: Benedikt Taschen Verlag, 1994. First Edition. 8vo. Pictorial Boards. Erotic Photography Monograph. Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. 96pp, profusely illustrated in monochrome. Text in English. For decades, the Arcadian erotic images of Guglielmo Plüschow were thought to have instead been taken by the noted German Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden, who specialized in coaxing the beautiful turn of the century young men of Taormina, Sicily into posing for eroticized classicist photographs. This substantial publication with a text by Peter Weiermair now correctly attributes these works to Plüschow - a cousin of Von Gloeden - whose studio in Rome was targeted in a morals scandal just after the turn of the century that ended with the photographer serving time in prison for procuring liaisons with his young models for a number of distinguished members of European society. A most handsome example of the 1994 hardbound English language edition of this engaging survey printed in sepia ink.
