Among the best-represented artists of the collection are Germans Albert Oehlen and Martin Kippenberger (with more than a hundred works each), and the American artists Jeff Koons and Mike Kelley. Additionally, Taschen owns many quality pieces representing key artists from the generation that emerged in the 1980s and is still active today. Among them: Thomas Struth, Gunther Forg, Cindy Sherman, Christopher Wool, Darren Almond, Werner Buttner, Andre Butzer, and Wolfgang Tillmans, not to forget photography doyens Julius Shulman and Helmut Newton, and Elmer Batters and Eric Stanton. JOSHUA RASHAAD MCFADDEN: I BELIEVE I'LL RUN ON

American artist Joshua Rashaad McFadden (b. 1990) makes photographs that explore and celebrate Black life in the United States. Published in conjunction with his first solo museum exhibition, Joshua Rashaad McFadden: I Believe I’ll Run On demonstrates his mastery of a wide range of photographic genres—social documentary, reportage, portraiture, and fine art—and his use of the medium to confront racism and anti-Black violence. Like Black photographers before him, such as Gordon Parks, Roy DeCarava, Carrie Mae Weems, Dawoud Bey, and LaToya Ruby Frazier, McFadden documents the beauty of Black life and illuminates the specificity of Black living in our historical present, including a series of impactful photographs devoted to the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020.
Along with a candid conversation between McFadden and artist Lyle Ashton Harris and an essay that traces McFadden’s meteoric career, this catalogue offers an overview of and insight into a poignant and deeply personal body of work, asserting McFadden’s key role in shaping the art and visual culture of the United States. 9780300264265 Inventory Number: I00220511 -
SANDRO MILLER: CROWNS -- MY HAIR, MY SOUL, MY FREEDOM
(MILLER, SANDRO) Edited by Anne Morin. Foreword by Angela Bassett. Poem by Patricia Smith. Skira, I00220518, 2022. 12 x 14 inches, 180 Pages. Hardcover. New/Slipcase.
A photographic panorama of the creativity and variety of Black women's hairstyles
In Crowns: My Hair, My Soul, My Freedom American photographer Sandro Miller (born 1958) celebrates the social endurance, cultural heritage and self-expression of Black women through their hairstyles. In this series of portraits, each subject is posed in front of either a strikingly black or vibrant geometric background that serves to highlight the models’ skin tones and accentuates their ultra-stylized hair, whether a halo of bright gold curls or crimson locks swept into an elegant bun. Each image is based on the relevant model’s “hair story” and pays homage to her personal fashion sense, documenting the many unspoken ways in which Black women assert their autonomy through their physical appearance. In this project, Miller seeks to recognize and honor Black women’s creativity and beauty while celebrating their social endurance and cultural memory at the same time. 9788857245584 Inventory Number: I00220518 -
