534 BEDS AND 1 BATHTUB: ROY TZIDON AT THE HANS BRINKER BUDGET HOTEL
(TZIDON, ROY). Tzidon, Roy & Chad Rea. Amsterdam, THE NETHERLANDS. ND (2001).: Hans Brinker Budget Hotel. First Edition. 8vo. Pictorial Boards. Photography Monograph. Near Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. np, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Art Direction by Erik Kessels. Designed by the great Erik Kessels (of KesselsKramer renown), this is Roy Tzidon's idiosyncratic book of erotic photography set in Amsterdam's notorious Hans Brinker Budget Hotel. A favorite of students, backpackers and sightseers on a budget, the five hundred and thirty-four bed self-proclaimed "Worst Hotel in the World - now with even more dogshit in the main entrance" has been "proudly disappointing travellers for forty years". For two months in 2000 the photographer rented Room 412 - the only one in the entire establishment with a full bathtub - and invited Hotel staff, guests, and street performers to come up to the room to bathe with the proviso that they allow themselves to be photographed for public consumption. This book, used as promotion for the Hans Brinker Budget Hotel, is the result. A most handsome example of this uncommon, charming item in the publisher's custom-embroidered white terrycloth bag, as issued. Inventory Number: 021698

VISIONAIRE NO. 10: THE ALPHABET (WINTER 1993-1994)
(VISIONAIRE). Gan, Stephen, James Kaliardos & Cecilia Dean, Editors. New York: Visionaire Publishing, 1993. First Edition 1/1500. Folio. Loose Plates in a Portfolio. Fashion Quarterly. Near Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. Individual sheets laid into a die-cut printed portfolio, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Designed by Gregory Foley. Published in an edition of one thousand, five hundred copies, this is the ninth installment of everyone's favorite long-running luxe fashion quarterly, Visionaire. "Greg Foley, who had been collaborating with us on our cover designs since the day he graduated from Rhode Island School of Design, really went to town with this one. He sliced out every letter he fancied and created one gigantic collage that we then photographed and printed. The concept was exciting: The B from Harper's Bazaar and the V from Vogue could all appear on our cover, along with many other famous typefaces. In the end it even became a kind of guessing game: ''Name that logo.'' The only drawback was that for months after this cover was made, there was not a magazine, phone book, or cereal box in the house that didn't have a hole cut out of it. The holographic metallic foil stamping also made this one of our most memorable covers. As for the contents, we assigned each of the contributing artists a different letter of the alphabet. For the first time, the directions were very specific, but even so, many artists took the challenge and proceeded as if they had been given carte blanche". Its contributors include editor Stephen Gan, Nick Knight, Robert Medvedz, Dovanna Pagowska, Jeffrey Fulvimani, Tim Rollins + K.O.S., Ruben Toledo, Bill Cunningham, Steven Meisel, James Dignan, Steven Klein, James Vance, Kareem Iliya, Bruce Weber, Francois Berthoud, Robert Adams, Stevan Dohan, Michael Capotosto, Miguel Calvo, Florentino J. THIS IS JOHN WALLOWITCH!!! VINYL LP - WITH A PHOTOBOOTH COLLAGE COVER BY ANDY WARHOL
(WARHOL, ANDY) (WALLOWITCH, JOHN). Wallowitch, John. New York. ND (1964).: Serenus Records Corp.. First Edition. Large Square 4to. LP in Illustrated Album Cover. Fine/Fine. One black vinyl long-playing phonograph record in a plain paper inner-sleeve, inside a 12 x 12" album cover printed black and white offset recto, and two color offset verso. Design by Irwin Rosenhouse. Cover Photograph by Andy Warhol. This is the very first recording issued by the late pianist, composer and lyricist John Wallowitch. Best known as one half of the Manhattan cabaret performing duo Wallowitch and Ross, his songs have been recorded by the likes of Tony Bennett, Blossom Dearie, Dixie Carter, Doc Severinson, and many others. He was also the brother of the late photographer Ed Wallowitch, a confidant and early Factory assistant to Andy Warhol. Art directed by noted New York designer Irwin Rosenhouse, Warhol collaged a series of photobooth images for its cover that capture the suited Wallowitch from his chest up to his mouth, cutting off any other identifying facial features (as well as making a non-issue of the pianist's baldness). The recordings consist of twelve show tunes and standards including "Swanee", "I'll Remember April", "Fly Me to the Moon", and "I Left My Heart in San Francisco". The jacket is stamped "Stereo" on the verso in black ink, and is remarkably clean and fresh. A bright, most handsome example of this uncommon, early Andy Warhol item (entry number twenty-six in Paul Marechal's "Andy Warhol: The Record Covers 1949-1987 - Catalogue Raisonné," and cited on page 48 of Guy Schraenen's "Vinyl: Records and Covers by Artists") that predates his "The Velvet Underground And Nico" album cover by two years. PLEASE NOTE: The album's catalogue number SEP 2005 printed prominently on the rear cover has led some less well-versed observers to speculate that this is a reprint issued in September of the year 2005. It is not. It is the first - and only vinyl issue - released in 1964. Inventory Number: 027217

TADANORI YOKOO: GENKYO II -- WORKS
(YOKOO, TADANORI). Kokushokankokai, I00220315, 2022. 10 x 12 inches, 460 Pages. Hardcover. New.
Tadanori Yokoo held his first solo exhibition of paintings in 1966 in Tokyo. His revolutionary work, which oscillates between conceptual art and pure design, rapidly gained attention in the international art world. With a signature style of colorful psychedelia and pastiche, he engages a wide spectrum of modern visual and cultural phenomena from Japan and elsewhere. The subject matter often clashes with what seems a nonsensical collage of images. ‘Genkyo’ is an exuberant, far-reaching anthology of Yokoo’s work throughout the years, with a special focus on how the artist constantly revisits and remakes the same images and themes in a mind-blowing variety of styles and artworks. 9784336071019 Inventory Number: I00220315 -

EX LIBRIS 3: APOLLINAIRE TO SURREALISM
Cohen, Arthur A. & Trevor Winkfield. New York. ND (circa 1976).: Ex Libris. First Edition. 4to. Printed Wrappers. Bookseller's Catalogue. Very Good.. np (152pp), profusely illustrated in b&w. New York's Arthur Cohen was the premier purveyor of books and ephemera on twentieth century Modern Art movements for nearly twenty years. Ex Libris' copiously researched, scholarly, illustrated catalogues stood as unparalleled bibliographic tools at a time when there was a paucity of available reference to the documentary literature of the modernist avant-gardes. Catalogue number three features nine hundred and eighty-five fully described and indexed original works, photographs, posters, books, periodicals, pamphlets, and printed ephemera on the subjects of Guillaume Apollinaire, Architecture, Expressionism, Illustrated Books and Livres de Peintre, Alfred Jarry, Periodicals and Annuals, Photographs and Photogravures (including a large collection of plates from "Camera Work"), Photography and Film, and Surrealism. And while at the time of its 1976 publication the prices here seemed astronomical, some forty years later they are finally downright bargains! A handsome example of this uncommon reference showing a bit of light sunning to the covers along with its title added discreetly in ink to the spine. Inventory Number: 015159

Gold, Jeff & Gene Sculatti. Berkeley & Los Angeles, CA: Gingko Press & Kill Your Idols, 2016. First Paperbound Edition. 4to. Pictorial Paperback. Music Monograph. As New.. 260pp, 443 color illustrations. Jeff Gold's "101 Essential Rock Records..." is a tribute to the vinyl album and celebrates one hundred and one of rock’s most influential records - from The Beatles’ 1963 debut "Please Please Me" through the Sex Pistols’ Never Mind the Bollocks". Alongside the big names such as Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and Fleetwood Mac are lesser-known but highly influential artists including Laura Nyro, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Captain Beefheart, and The Stooges. An essay on each album accompanies reproductions of the original vinyl cover artwork, with rare variations from around the world. Also included are thought-provoking interviews with musicians who discuss the albums and artists who changed their lives. Graham Nash describes meeting The Beatles at a 1959 talent show where they were billed as Johnny and the Moondogs, and how, four years later, John Lennon and Paul McCartney sang him the just written "Misery" - one voice in each ear. David Bowie speaks eloquently about the Velvet Underground’s influence, and Iggy Pop writes of the profound impact upon hearing Van Morrison’s no-holds-barred performance on the first album by Them, and his admiration for Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention’s "Freak Out", noting that opening for the Mothers "pushed me to be weirder faster". Additional contributions are from Jac Holzman (Elektra Records), Robyn Hitchcock, Nels Cline (Wilco), Susanne Vega, Jon Savage, Devendra Banhart, Mick Haggerty, Joe Boyd, Peter Buck (REM), Johnny Marr (The Smiths), and Ken Barnes. In an era when 1s and 0s seem to hover above our heads, Print Punch returns to the heyday of the punch card—to a time when you could touch (and punch) data. The aesthetics of this early move towards automation represent a unique moment in our history, when we designed for machines instead of human beings. Rigorous constraints, inherent in punch card technology, unwittingly birthed a coherent design language: rhythm in grids, punched absences and presences, and the patterns in them dancing to their own machine logic. Now obsolete, punch cards were the primary method of data storage and processing from the 1890s until the late 1970s; spanning almost a century of ubiquitous utility, the artefacts of that era sit between these pages to be examined anew." EXTREME CANVAS: HAND-PAINTED MOVIE POSTERS FROM GHANA - SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR
Wolfe, Ernie III. With Contributions by Clive Barker, LeVar Burton, Deirdre Evans-Pritchard, Walter Hill, Anjelica Huston, John Milius, Roy Sieber, Paul Hayes Tucker, Gus Van Sant & John Yau. Los Angeles: Dilettante Press & Kesho Press, 2000. First Edition. 4to. Illustrated Wrappers. Film Monograph. Fine.. 305pp, profusely illustrated in color. This is noted African Art scholar Ernie Wolfe's extraordinary compendium of vivid, vulgar and outrageous examples of indigenous Ghanaian vernacular movie advertisements. These hand-painted, one-of-a-kind canvases typically adorn local video stores. Resembling vintage American carnival sideshow banners, their lurid images may or may not have anything to do with the actual content of the film they are representing. These posters are both amusing, and poignant in their irony of promoting Hollywood's excesses in the dry, dusty West African villages in which they hang. The list of essayists is also remarkable, featuring Clive Barker, LeVar Burton, Deirdre Evans-Pritchard, Walter Hill, Anjelica Huston, John Milius, Roy Sieber, Paul Hayes Tucker, Gus Van Sant, and John Yau each writing on the film genre of their choice. A brand new, most handsome example of the 2000 paperbound first edition additionally BOLDLY SIGNED "Ernie Wolfe III" by the author in black marker on the verso of the front pastedown. 0-9664272-2-X Inventory Number: 027323
