OUT THE WINDOW (LAX): PHOTOGRAPHS BY ZOE CROSHER - SIGNED AND DATED BY THE ARTIST
(CROSHER, ZOE). Crosher, Zoe. Los Angeles: Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design, 2007. First Edition. 12mo. Wrappers in Dust Jacket. Artist's Book. Fine./Fine.. 80pp, 32 color illustrations. "Contemporary artist Zoe Crosher takes the viewer on an exploratory journey inside the impersonal and transient travel world surrounding the mega international airport, LAX. She finds a landscape packed with identical hotel chains pushed up against giant billboards, where the words "hotel" and "taxi" are understood by nearly everyone. Crosher methodically settled into a different hotel room each day and photographed out the window. The only requirement was that the view from each room must duplicate the one she inhabited before. The pattern of the drapes change, the color of the stucco exterior changes and the airplanes caught in mid-flight move through the atmosphere, but the basic view stays the same. There is a haunting familiarity that one has never really left the first room, a feeling of complete deja-vu. Time and identity almost cease to exist. For Crosher, her very quiet, minimal images create huge questions about place, identity, the homogenization of global cultures". A brand new, pristine example of this charming tome additionally SIGNED AND DATED "ZOE______07" in the year of publication in black ink on the title page. 0-9763166-2-5 Inventory Number: 023651

TOM FRIEDMAN - COMPLETE IN TWO VOLUMES
(FRIEDMAN, TOM). Perniola, Mario, Patrizio Bertelli, Tom Friedman, Robert Storr, John Miller, Glenn D. Lowry, Dennis Cooper, John Waters & Miuccia Prada. Germano Celant, Editor. Milan, ITALY: Fondazione Prada, 2002. First Edition. 4to. Wrappers in Slipcase. Artist Monographs. As New./No Jackets - As Issued.. np (160) + 316pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Text in English. With a bio-bibliography and exhibition history. "With the skills of a master craftsman, the obsessiveness of a teenage model-airplane builder, and the sense of humor and world view of a conceptual, self-defeatist prankster, Tom Friedman constructs works of art that defy cynical, uptight abstractionists and bored, foggy-eyed slouchers. Here is a man who carved his self-portrait out of an aspirin tablet; who built a standing figure, over a meter tall, out of sugar cubes; who suspended a perfect pink sphere in the corner of a room by making it out of thousands of pieces of bubble gum (which kept it stuck there just right); and who created an ephemeral floor sculpture using red eraser shavings from who knows how many pencils. And let's not forget the perfectly detailed, to-scale sculptures of spiders, flies, and bees that seem to simply alight on the corner of a museum pedestal. Or the minty-blue monochrome wall-work made entirely of toothpaste. Or the piece of paper that had been stared at for one thousand hours. In this hefty two-volume set, which comes slipped together in a quirky, tactile case, Friedman's anti-monumental oeuvre is presented in two parts. First comes an artist's book, conceived by Friedman himself and containing drawings, photographs and sketches. Book number two is a thorough catalogue in which the whole of the artist's output is described and analyzed, accompanied by his own writings and essays by Robert Storr, John Miller, Glenn D. Lowry, Dennis Cooper and John Waters, amongst others". A brand new, pristine example of this massive document still in the publisher's shrinkwrap. 88-8702-924-5 Inventory Number: 016376

SCOTT GRIEGER: IMPERSONATIONS
(GRIEGER, SCOTT). Grieger, Scott. NP (Los Angeles): Self-Published, 1970. First Edition. Oblong Small 4to. Loose Plates in a Portfolio. Artist's Book. Very Good +.. Fifteen individual 7 ½ x 10 ¼" plates printed offset recto only, 15 b&w illustrations. Self-published in 1970, "Impersonations" is Los Angeles-based artist Scott Grieger's wildly hilarious, photographically illustrated artist's book of send-ups of iconic works by many of the then-prevailing luminaries of Pop, Conceptual and Minimal Art. Using the photographic studio and some darkroom magic, the hirsute Grieger clad in jeans, desert boots, and a white t-shirt substitutes himself for artworks ranging from a Barnett Newman "zip" to one of Robert Irwin's illuminated disc paintings. The fifteen artists receiving these wry homages are Ronald Bladen, Tony DeLap, Robert Grosvenor, Irwin, Les Levine, Sol LeWitt, John McCracken, Robert Morris, Newman, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, George Rickey, Richard Serra, Robert Smithson, and Ernest Trova. The "Impersonations" photographs were subsequently shown in MoMA's landmark 1970 Conceptual Art exhibition "Information", the 1972 Whitney Annual, "Los Angeles '72" at New York's Sidney Janis Gallery, and were the subject of a 2007 retrospective with catalogue at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art at Utah State University. The work fits in nicely with parallel body-centric photographic excursions by the likes of Bruce Nauman, Chris Burden and Vito Acconci - albeit with a more overt tongue in cheek approach. A bright, handsome example of this exceedingly uncommon - only five copies are currently cited in OCLC WorldCat - and underappreciated gem whose glossy white printed paper portfolio shows some typical creasing along the edges along with a slight stain at the upper right corner of the rear panel. SCOTT GRIEGER: IMPERSONATIONS
(GRIEGER, SCOTT). Grieger, Scott. NP (Los Angeles): Self-Published, 1970. First Edition. Oblong Small 4to. Loose Plates in a Portfolio. Artist's Book. Very Good -.. A bright, handsome example of this exceedingly uncommon - only five copies are currently cited in OCLC WorldCat - and underappreciated gem whose plates all show four tiny puncture marks at the upper left-hand corner due to two removed staples, and whose glossy white printed paper portfolio shows some typical minor creasing along the edges along with a few small spots on the front cover. It has been priced accordingly. Inventory Number: 020015
