LOS COHETES DURARON TODO EL DIA - SIGNED BY PEDRO MEYER
(MEYER, PEDRO). Meyer, Pedro. Mexico City, MEXICO: Petroleos Mexicanos, 1988. First Edition. Small Folio. Cloth in Pictorial Dust Jacket. Photography Monograph. Fine/Fine. 148pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. Text in Spanish. "Los cohetes duraron todo el dia" is noted Mexican photographer Pedro Meyer's 1988 socially conscious photo essay commissioned by the national petroleum company Pemex to coincide with its fiftieth anniversary. Due however to Meyer's dedication of the volume to Lazaro Cardenas, the socialist-leaning former president who established Pemex in 1938 as part of his nationalization of Mexican oil production (whose son also happened to be an opposition candidate to then-current president Carlos Salinas earlier in the year), the newly elected government seized nearly all the copies printed to put a stop to the book's distribution. A brand new, pristine example of this uncommon and desirable document (cited on pages 198-199 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume II") acquired directly from the photographer additionally BOLDLY SIGNED "Pedro Meyer" in black ink beneath the frontispiece image on the second preliminary. 968-6164-35-9 Inventory Number: 018260

KARL JOHAN DE GEER: THE CAMERA AS CONSOLATION 1959-1980 - DELUXE LIMITED SIGNED EDITION WITH A VINTAGE PRINT HOUSED IN A HAND DRAWN SLIPCASE BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER
(DE GEER, KARL JOHAN).Kugelberg, Johan. New York: Ectoplasm Books, 2009. First Edition. Oblong Small 4to. Boards in Pictorial Jacket. Photography Monograph. As New/As New. np (60pp), profusely illustrated in b&w. Designed by Taylor Brigode for Octopuss Limited. "Carl Johan De Geer, born in 1938, grew up in absurd privilege and abject unhappiness as a member of one of Sweden's most powerful aristocrat families. His parents showed no discernable interest in him or his siblings, and so he grew up on a grand country estate with his grandparents, went to art school in the late 1950s, and in an epic choice of rejection lived his life to this day as a perennial Swedish underground artist, working in counterpoint to the privilege of his surname. De Geer, as a masterful Leica M4 snapshot giant à la Van Der Elsken or Daido Moriyama, has the sacred ability to capture the monotone grit of everyday life and demand its reflection. He gives us a glimpse of a Sweden inhabited by people who are the other, whose life experience is impregnated with otherness, providing a visual cue into an unseen world. The visible scratches, fades and imperfections, the wabi-sabi of this collection of vintage prints, is reflected in the images". "The Camera as Consolation" is the hardbound catalogue published in conjunction with the Johan Kugelberg-curated 2009 Boo-Hooray Gallery exhibition of the gritty Vietnam-era social reportage of this unsung Swedish master that parallels the work Ed Van Der Elsken and Anders Peterson. NEO RAUCH
(RAUCH, NEO). Szeeman, Harald, Daniel Birnbaum & Lynne Cooke. Maastricht, THE NETHERLANDS, & Ostfildern, GERMANY: Bonnefantenmuseum & Cantz Verlag, 2002. First Edition. 4to. Illustrated Self-Wrappers. Artist Monograph. Fine.. 144pp, 66 color illustrations. Text in German and English. This is the comprehensive catalogue published in conjunction with the noted Leipzig-based artist having received the 2002 Vincent Van Gogh Bi-Annual Award for Contemporary Art in Europe. "One of the most original artists of his generation, Neo Rauch's paintings appear disturbingly detached and yet familiar, their figures, objects, and mood seemingly borrowed from old advertising posters, dusty book jackets, and forgotten comics. Rauch's formulistic visual symbols suggest a more profound meaning, yet it is difficult to decipher their message. The tension lurking under their almost frozen surfaces, washed with dusky, sinister colors, is fueled by paradox: as vivid as the structure of the work comes across, the impression is rigid; as powerful as the strokes of broken colors are, they appear faded, from bygone times". A most handsome example. 3-7757-1243-7 Inventory Number: 017481
