Blackie the Cat (2003-2020) was the longtime creative collaborator and feline companion of artist Gary Baseman. Known for his “Power of Purr” and “Gift of Gab”, Blackie the Cat was the inspiration for Baseman’s iconic characters ChouChou and Ahwroo. He co-created The Purr Room in 2019, a sound bath installation that features Blackie’s triple purr, shared with thousands in the USA, UK, and China since. His message of peace and compassion continues to this day to be an important part of Gary Baseman’s art.
