(LOS FOUR). Almaraz, Carlos, Roberto de la Rocha, Gilbert Sanchez Lujan & Frank Edward Romero. Irvine & Los Angeles, CA: Art Gallery, University of California, Irvine & Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1973. First Edition 1/1500. 4to. Pictorial Wrappers. Artists' Book. Near Fine.. One continuous 10 x 118" sheet printed recto only folded neatly vertically in eighths to make a 16pp leporello fold out, profusely illustrated in duotone. Designed by Frank Romero. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. This is the graphically innovative sixteen page artist book cum catalogue produced by the members of Los Four in conjunction with their historic 1973 survey exhibition held at the Art Gallery at the University of California, Irvine that subsequently traveled to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Comprised of local artists Carlos Almaraz, Roberto "Beto" de la Rocha, Gilbert "Magu" Lujan, and Frank Romero, the work of Los Four was a highly important and influential part of the burgeoning Chicano Art movement of the seventies. Printed with a visually striking split rainbow fount, it features four parallel photographic narratives that run horizontally along the length of its accordion-fold pull-out accompanied by biographical statement by each of the four artists. A bright, most handsome example of this exceedingly uncommon ephemeral item limited to one thousand, five hundred unnumbered copies that was the only printed documentation of the exhibition.
