SIGMAR POLKE: DAPHNE (400 XEROGRAPHS IN 24 CHAPTERS) - LIMITED SLIPCASED EDITION SIGNED BY THE ARTIST

(POLKE, SIGMAR). Polke, Sigmar & Rainer Speck. Ghent, BELGIUM & Cologne, GERMANY: Snoeck Publishers, 2004. First Edition 1/1000. Folio. Cloth in Jacket, Slipcased. Artist's Book. Fine/Fine. xii + np, profusely illustrated in b&w. Text in English. Designed by Kuhle und Mozer. Inspired by Ovid's recounting of the Greek myth of Daphne and Apollo, Sigmar Polke has created this massive, exceedingly luxe artist's book comprised of twenty-four chapters of hand-fed, manipulated Xeroxed imagery on heavy paper stock. Utilizing source-imagery ranging from Polke's own drawings, art historical prints, steel engravings, to photographs of Bettie Page and Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and the rest of the Rat Pack from "Ocean's Eleven", "Daphne" is a true tour-de-force of art in the age of mechanical reproduction, with no two copies exactly alike. A brand new, most handsome example of the English language edition limited to one thousand copies NUMBERED AND SIGNED by Sigmar Polke in pencil at the rear colophon, in the publisher's unprinted black paper over boards slipcase, as issued. 3-936859-00-0 Inventory Number: 026991
