DITER ROT: BOOK AC 1958-64 - ONE OF TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY COPIES NUMBERED AND SIGNED BY THE ARTIST

(ROT, DITER). Rot, Diter, aka Dieter Roth. NP (Reykjavic, ICELAND). ND (1964): Forlag ed.. First Edition #20/250. Square Folio. Loose Plates in Clamshell Box. Artist's Print Portfolio. Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. Twenty-four 16 x 16" unprinted die-cut construction paper sheets - twelve black, twelve white - accompanied by an uncut white colophon sheet and a black spacer sheet. Published in 1964 by Forlag ed. in Reykjavik, Iceland and fabricated by Ives-Sillman in New Haven, Connecticut, "Book AC 1958-64" is a playful, interactive print portfolio cum illustrated book by the pioneering Swiss book artist Diter Rot - aka Dieter Roth. It consists of twenty-four alternating black and white die-cut sheets that can be sequenced near-infinitely to geometrically interact with one another in ways that presage the mid-sixties Op Art craze. A most handsome complete, well-preserved example of this extraordinary undertaking (entry number three in Dirk Dobke and Thomas Kellein's "Dieter Roth: Books + Multiples: Catalogue Raisonné") NUMBERED 20/250 AND SIGNED "DITER ROT" in black ink on the colophon sheet and housed in the publisher's austere silkscreened black cloth-over-Masonite solander box, as issued.
