One 3 ½ x 8 ½" mucilage-backed paper sheet printed offset recto only, perforated to make ten individual stamps. This is the set of black on silver postage-style stamps reproducing ten phrases drawn from Jenny Holzer's "Truisms" series produced to be included in with 1995 fundraising letter to benefit the New York non-profit arts organization, Art Matters. The artist's thought-provoking phrases are RAISE BOYS AND GIRLS THE SAME WAY, DRAMA OFTEN OBSCURES THE REAL ISSUES, A MAN CAN'T KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A MOTHER, ACTION CAUSES MORE TROUBLE THAN THOUGHT, CHANGE IS VALUABLE WHEN THEY OPPRESSED BECOME TYRANTS, ANY SURPLUS IN IMMORAL, SLOPPY THINKING GETS WORSE OVER TIME, A LOT OF PROFESSIONALS ARE CRACKPOTS, BOREDOM MAKES YOU DO CRAZY THINGS, and WISHING THINGS AWAY IS NOT EFFECTIVE.
