MODIGLIANI 1884-1920: CATALOGUE RAISONNÉ - SA VIE, SON OEUVRE COMPLET, SON ART

(MODIGLIANI, AMEDEO). Lanthemann, J.. Barcelona, SPAIN: Graficas Condal, 1970. First Edition 1/2500. 4to. Gilt-Stamped Boards. Catalogue Raisonné. Near Fine./No Jacket - As Issued. 392pp, 1091 illustrations in b&w and color. Text in French. With a bibliography. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. This is the comprehensive catalogue raisonné containing detailed entries for one thousand and fifty-four paintings, sculptures, and works on paper by Amedeo Modigliani that was self-published by Joseph Lanthemann in 1970. It has subsequently become known by experts in the field as the most controversial of the artist's several catalogues raisonné due to the author's inclusion of numerous works of dubious origin and/or documentation. A most handsome example of this uncommon document limited to two thousand, five hundred NUMBERED (749) copies showing a bit of light spotting along the top edge of the textblock.
