    RUDI GERNREICH: A RETROSPECTIVE 1922 - 1985 (LOOKING BACK AT A FUTURIST)

(GERNREICH, RUDI). Luther, Marylou & Issey Miyake. Jacques Faure, Editor. Los Angeles: The Fashion Group Foundation, Inc., 1985. First Edition. 4to. Illustrated Wrappers. Fashion Monograph. Very Good -.. 80pp, profusely illustrated in b&w and color. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. This is the catalogue published in conjunction with a posthumous one-evening retrospective exhibition in honor of Rudi Gernreich - the late Los Angeles-based visionary fashion designer who brought us see-through, unisex garb, the topless swimsuit, and the pubikini. It is filled with images by the likes of Helmut Newton, Alice Springs, Gordon Parks, Edward Ruscha, and of course William Claxton, who was the husband of Rudi's muse Peggy Moffitt, and the primary photographer of Gernreich's collections for almost two decades. In addition, this reproduces fourteen full page sketches, and Gernreich's work with modern dancers Lester Horton and Bella Lewitzky. An internally handsome example of this exceedingly uncommon item showing moderate wear, handling, and soiling to the covers. It has been priced accordingly. Inventory Number: 025611
