EDWIN JANSS: MARINE PORTFOLIO II - SEVENTEEN COLOR STUDIES FROM THE EASTERN & WESTERN PACIFIC: THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS: THE REVILLAGIGEDO ISLANDS: THE GULF OF CALIFORNIA: THE PALAU ISLANDS: THE CHANNEL ISLANDS

(JANSS, EDWIN). Janss, Edwin. Foreword by Giles W. Mead. Los Angeles: Natural History Museum, 1973. First Edition. Folio. Cloth Portfolio in Slipcase. Photography Monograph. Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. np (4pp) + seventeen 13 x 15" archival cardstock sheets each with a 7 ½ x 9 ½" type-C color photographic print mounted on the recto, 17 color illustrations. "Marine Portfolio II" is the late Los Angeles based underwater photographer and art collector Edwin Janss' spectacular second - of three total - collection of original color photographic prints of fish, corals, and mostly nudibranchs taken during Mr. Janss' many dives in the Pacific Ocean. It features a brief foreword by the then-director of Los Angeles' Natural History Museum Giles W. Mead accompanied by seventeen vivid 7 ½ x 9 ½" color images each mounted on a 13 x 15" archival cardstock sheet additionally NUMBERED AND SIGNED "Edwin Janss" in pencil on the recto. A brand new, internally most handsome example of this exceedingly uncommon, luxe item showing just a bit of wear and trivial spotting to the publisher's dark brown slipcase. While not marked in any way, this came to us directly from the library of Janss' close friend, the late, great artist Sam Francis. Inventory Number: 024723
