THE BLUE GUITAR: ETCHINGS BY DAVID HOCKNEY WHO WAS INSPIRED BY WALLACE STEVENS WHO WAS INSPIRED BY PABLO PICASSO - A SPECTACULAR ASSOCIATION COPY INSCRIBED BY THE ARTIST TO R.B. KITAJ

(HOCKNEY, DAVID). Hockney, David & Wallace Stevens. London: Petersburg Press, 1977. First Edition. Small Square 4to. Boards in Illustrated Jacket. Publisher's Prospectus. Fine/Near Fine. 52pp, 20 color illustrations. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. This lovely hardbound book was published as a miniature facsimile cum publisher's prospectus for Petersburg Press' 1977 portfolio "The Blue Guitar" illustrated with twenty original color etchings by David Hockney that accompany Wallace Stevens' poem "The Man With the Blue Guitar" after Pablo Picasso's 1903 work "The Old Guitarist". While there are no original prints in this version, it is an exquisitely produced gem. A most handsome example in dust jacket additionally bearing the BOLDLY SIGNED PRESENTATION "For Ron. --------- / David H. / XX" in brown ink on the title page. Ronald Brooks "R.B." Kitaj was the American-born, London-based artist who was Hockney's Royal Academy of Art classmate, longtime friend, and colleague in the informal, Kitaj-coined "School of London" group of figurative artists. This volume was purchased by us directly from Mr. Kitaj in the month preceding his 2007 passing. 0-902825-03-8 Inventory Number: 024672
