SQUAT THEATRE (WRITTEN AND COMPILED BY EVA BUCHMULLER ANNA KOOS BASED ON THEIR ARCHIVES OF THE SQUAT THEATRE)

(SQUAT THEATRE). Buchmuller Eva & Anna Koos. Introductions by Alisa Solomon & Andras Halasz. New York: Artists Space, 1996. First Edition. 8vo. Pictorial Wrappers. Exhibition Catalog. Fine.. 232pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. Designed by Eva Buchmuller and Anna Koos. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. This is the informative catalogue of the 1996 exhibition held at New York's Artists Space documenting Squat Theatre - the dissident artist-run Hungarian experimental theater company founded in Budapest that subsequently moved to New York, where the members - Stephan Balint, Eszter Balint, Peter Berg, Eva Buchmuller, Marianne Kollar, Peter Halasz, Galus Halasz, Anna Koos, Boris Major, Rebecca Major - lived and worked from 1977 until 1984. The troupe staged performances based on works by Andy Warhol, Antonin Artaud, Anton Chekov, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and others in their storefront window at 256 West 23rd Street - utilizing the street as a backdrop - which became their trademark. A most handsome example of this exceedingly uncommon document compiled and designed by Buchmuller and Koos from the company's own archives. 0-9636372-2-3 Inventory Number: 024378
