RICHARD HUGHES: JOYFUL SORROW - 2008 MOMART CHRISTMAS PROJECT ARTIST'S MULTIPLE

(HUGHES, RICHARD). Hughes, Richard. London: Momart, 2008. First Edition. 12mo. Cast Plastic Sculpture. Artist's Multiple. As New. One 5 x 2 x 1 ½" plastic sculpture.Momart is a London-based company specializing in the storage, transportation, and installation of works of art. Each year they commission a British artist to produce a multiple that is distributed hors commerce by the firm as a holiday gift. "Richard Hughes makes intricate illusions that trick the viewer while, at the same time, laying their artifice bare. His sculptures and installations resemble the aftermaths of good times gone sour. Bags of jettisoned old clothes, rising damp, burnt-out hedges and surreptitious bottles of urine-dog-end residues which hint at elaborate histories. Culturally specific, his works tap into shared memories and the bittersweet feelings reserved for things past their best while revealing themselves to be shams". Issued in 2008, Richard Hughes' sculpture "Joyful Sorrow" takes the form of a partially deflated white balloon with a snowman-style face painted on, featuring a carrot for a nose. A pristine example of this uncommon, unnumbered artist's multiple SIGNED AND DATED "R. Hughes, MOMART 2008" on the rear of the piece in the mold in the publisher's zip-lock plastic bag along with Momart's accompanying two-page printed documentation, as issued. Inventory Number: 023999
