    JOEL STERNFELD: AMERICAN PROSPECTS

(STERNFELD, JOEL). Grundberg, Andy & Kerry Brougher. Afterword By Anne W. Tucker. New York. 1987 (2003).: D.A.P. (Distributed Art Publishers). First Edition Thus. Oblong Folio. Cloth in Pictorial Dust Jacket. Photography Monograph. As New/As New. np (140pp), 60 color illustrations. Designed by Joel Sternfeld, Gerhard Steidl and Bernard Fischer. This is the enlarged and redesigned edition of Joel Sternfeld's landmark first book of ironic color photographs, 1987's "American Prospects". Digital scanning and offset printing techniques have caught up with the photographer's eye, and this current version succeeds in presenting Sternfeld's seminal work as it was meant to be shown. It is in a substantially larger format printed by Gerhard Steidl, and includes an additional essay by curator Kerry Brougher. This is one of the classic volumes of seventies American photography, available once more in a bigger, bolder edition. A pristine copy of the 2003 first D.A.P. printing (whose 1987 first edition is cited on pages 34-35 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume II", pages 338-339 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book", page 60 of "From Fair to Fine: 20th Century Photography Books That Matter", page 43 of "From Fair to Fine 3" and pages 260-261 of "The Book of 101 Books"). 1-891024-77-9 Inventory Number: 020661
