ALAN ALDRIDGE'S POSTER FOR THE 1970 LONDON SCREENING OF ANDY WARHOL'S "CHELSEA GIRLS"
(ALDRIDGE, ALAN) (WARHOL, ANDY). Aldridge, Alan & Andy Warhol. London: Motif Editions, 1970. First Edition. Double Elephant Folio. Printed Poster. Film Poster. Near Fine.. One 30 x 20" paper sheet printed black and white offset, recto only, 1 b&w illustration. Filmed by Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey from a treatment by Ronnie Tavel on location inside Manhattan's fabled Chelsea Hotel, the film received upon its 1966 release an X certificate from the British Board of Film Censors, meaning it was unable to be theatrically released in the UK. (AMOK). Swezey, Stuart & Brian King, Editors. Los Angeles. 1986-2000.: Amok. First Editions. 4to. Illustrated Wrappers. Near Fine or Better.. 32 + 52 + 100 + 374 + 476 + 562pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. Before there was an internet for such things, if one wanted to investigate Serial Killers, The Illuminati, Alien Autopsies, Conspiracy Theories, Mind Control, Tiki Exoticism, Bondage and Domination, Sensory Deprivation, and any manner of transgressive topics, the Amok shop on Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles was your veritable Library of Alexandria. Starting as a modest storefront bookstore, Amok branched out in the eighties and nineties to become a far reaching mail-order empire where one could find the most obscure books, pamphlets, tracts, screeds, video tapes, cassettes, and the like on anything from Survival Research Laboratory to Ed Gein to MK-ULTRA. Their five highly informative - and sought after - catalogues of wares referred to as "Dispatches" were published in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1999. Additionally, an anthology of writings on Autoerotic Fatalities, Trepanation, Gualtiero Jacopetti, Cargo Cult, NSK, Self-Mutilation Amputee Fetish, Infrasound, and Psych-Our was issued in 1995 as the "Amok Journal: Sensurround Edition." The first four installments are on newsprint, and show just a bit of age-toning to their textblocks. Number four is the uncommon first printing with the monochrome cover reproduction of one of artist Jim Shaw's thrift store paintings. All are first printings but for the fifth installment, which is the second printing from 2000. A most handsome, truly rare complete set of the five "Dispatches" plus the "Amok Journal" featuring nearly two thousand pages that illuminate and explore the darkest reaches of mankind - and beyond - each of which is additionally SIGNED in black ink by Amok editor and publisher, Stuart Swezey. CARL ANDRE: POEMS
(ANDRE, CARL). Delahunty, Gavin, Lynn Kost & Valerie Mavridorakis. Lynn Kost, Editor. Zurich & Schaffenhausen, SWITZERLAND: JRP Ringier & Museum zu Allerheiligen Schaffhausen, 2014. First Edition. Oblong 4to. Illustrated Boards. Artist Monograph. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. 152pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Text in English and German. Designed by Nicolas Eigenheer and Vera Kaspar. With an exhibition checklist. "Carl Andre was a poet before he was an artist, and between 1960 and 1965 he produced a substantial body of innovative visual poetry. Arranging language on paper as carefully and as sculpturally as he was later to arrange pieces of metal or bricks on the floor, Andre approached words as adjustable entities, to be moved around within the limits of the space of the sheet of paper. These works, made during the height of the international Concrete poetry movement, appeared alongside his sculptures in exhibitions and were excerpted in scholarly writings about the artist. With this volume, Andre’s influential poetic oeuvre is now gathered comprehensively for the first time. The poems, which were often typed on 8 x 11" paper, are reproduced in quasi-facsimile, to convey Andre’s sculptural intentions. Also included are essays by art historians Gavin Delahunty and Valérie Mavridorakis, and curator Lynn Kost". A brand new, pristine hardbound example of this scholarly yet lively study published in conjunction with a 2014 Swiss Museum exhibition still in the publisher's shrinkwrap. 3-03-764364-1 Inventory Number: 026555

Good.. np, 18 individual inserts printed offset on cardstock or paper housed a printed paper pocket, 11 monochrome illustrations + front cover. This seventh installment of "Semina" - Wallace Berman's legendary, and legendarily scarce handmade literary and art periodical - is subtitled "Aleph". Published in Larkspur in 1961, unlike its predecessors that anthologized work from the movers and shakers of the West Coast Beat scene, this number is entirely devoted entirely to contributions by Berman himself. It is comprised of eighteen loose reproductions of photographs, drawings, and text - many of which combine these elements. A complete, internally handsome example of this exceedingly uncommon item limited to two hundred unnumbered copies. The eleven photographic reproductions on cardstock are bright and fresh, while several of the text pieces printed on matte paper show typical minor soiling, offsetting, and age-toning. The printed white pocket into which these are gathered is still securely affixed to the inside rear cover. Externally, the title pastedown on the front cover shows some mild rubbing and foxing, and the brittle, highly acidic chipboard covers have light overall wear, age-toning, and soiling. More notably, the covers have separated cleanly along the length of the spine, and there are two triangular chips of paper loss along the bottom edge - one on the rear at the heel of the spine, and a tiny one at the foredge front corner. Both detached fragments are present, and we have decided to let the next owner deal with their preferences for any paper restoration. All in all, this is a most presentable copy of a truly remarkable Wallace Berman item that looks far nicer in hand than it describes that has been priced accordingly. Inventory Number: 026125

Introduced in 2009, his CFYW signs are screen-printed on corrugated plastic, mirroring the same materials and design principles used by the anonymous forces trying to profit on misfortune in order to acquire your house, car, and diabetic test strips. Hargadon's works bear an ever-evolving variety of wry phrases commingling the realms of art and finance. They are typically posted in the dead of night in the public sphere in proximity to Art exhibitions or Fairs, and gone by the next day: their temporal presence memorialized as hundreds of images posted to social media. A brand new, pristine example acquired directly from the artist bearing the text "CASH for your WARHOL / From Canada - call collect! / (617) 553-1103" in red and blue ink on a white substrate BOLDLY SIGNED AND DATED 2016 in black marker along the bottom edge of the verso, as issued. Whether depicting former classmates from Yale, nude and in serene repose; street vendors near her home in Harlem; anonymous New Yorkers huddled on the subway; or her own students, posed largely in domestic interiors among their personal belongings, she explores how both public and private spheres can serve as frames for an inner life. This generously illustrated, oversized publication is the first comprehensive monographic publication on Casteel’s work, and includes texts by Dawoud Bey, Amanda Hunt and Lauren Haynes as well as conversations conducted with the artist by Massimiliano Gioni and Thelma Golden." THE ART OF ELIZABETH CATLETT - DELUXE LIMITED HARDBOUND EDITION WITH A SIGNED WOODBLOCK PRINT
(CATLETT, ELIZABETH). Lewis, Samella & Elizabeth Catlett. Foreword by Maxine Waters. Claremont, CA: Hancraft Studios, 1984. First Edition 1/1000 Deluxe. 4to. Cloth in Pictorial Dust Jacket. Catalogue Raisonné. Near Fine/Near Fine. 194pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Designed by Robert Biddle. With a biography and bibliography. This is the lavishly produced 1984 monograph cum catalogue raisonné of the graphic work by the noted late African-American artist Elizabeth Catlett. Still the most comprehensive document of her printed work to date, it features a significant text by Samella Lewis with contributions by the artist along with scores of previously unpublished images. An internally most handsome example of the uncommon deluxe hardbound edition of this important publication limited to one thousand copies NUMBERED (131/1000) AND SIGNED "E Catlett" in silver ink on the front pastedown showing a bit of light wear and creasing to the dust jacket. Laid in is Catlett's graphically striking 9 ½ x 7 1/8" linoleum block print from 1983 entitled "Survivor" that is TITLED, NUMBERED, SIGNED, AND DATED "Survivor / 131/1000 / E Catlett '83" in pencil along the bottom margin, as issued. The sheet shows some light foxing along the top and right edges that in no way affects the print image. While the limitation states that one thousand of these deluxe versions were produced, its relative scarcity in the marketplace seems to indicate that only a portion were actually distributed, and it is increasingly unusual to find copies of the print still paired with the book. Additionally laid in is the publisher's "A Note on the Production on The Art of Elizabeth Catlett" brochure. 0-941248-06-2 Inventory Number: 025300

CHRISTO: EXHIBITION POSTER FOR "CHRISTO WRAPS THE MUSEUM" - SIGNED BY THE ARTIST
(CHRISTO). Javacheff, Christo. New York: Museum of Modern Art, 1968. First Edition. Elephant Folio. Printed Poster. Exhibition Poster. Fine.. One 33 ½ x 22 ½" kraft paper sheet printed offset recto only, machine folded in eighths and flattened, 1 b&w illustration. This is the poster issued by the Museum of Modern Art in conjunction with their 1968 exhibition "Christo Wraps the Museum: Scale Models, Photomontages, and Drawings for a Non-Event". The show presented preparatory materials generated for the artist's proposed wrapping of MoMA - a project that was ultimately abandoned due to safety and liability concerns. States the Museum's contemporaneous press release ""As an artist functioning more in the realm of 'events' than in that of painting and sculpture, it is not surprising that Christo should have dreamed that it was time to wrap up the Museum , and for that matter the trees, the sculptures, and even some of the spectators in its garden. The Museum staff found this a potentially lively and poetically strange project. But the more practical heads of the fire department, police department, and insurance agencies prevailed. Nevertheless, we felt that our public would enjoy seeing the models, photomontages, and drawings that Christo had prepared as sketches for this event, an event that was to have signaled the closing of the exhibition "Dada, Surrealism, and Their Heritage". A brand new, most handsome example of this graphically striking object we acquired directly from its original owner - a significant Los Angeles collector who became good friends with artist - for whom it was additionally BOLDLY SIGNED AND DATED "Christo 68" in orange crayon - that originally came folded, as issued, and has been subsequently flattened. The poster is accompanied by a Fine condition, unsigned example of the uncommon accompanying fourteen page MoMA exhibition catalogue. Inventory Number: 026503

CHUCK CLOSE: SCRIBBLE BOOK - DELUXE SIGNED, SLIPCASED EDITION LIMITED TO ONE HUNDRED COPIES
(CLOSE, CHUCK). Close, Chuck. Gottingen, GERMANY: Little Steidl, 2017. First Edition #65/100 Deluxe. 4to. Cloth in a Clamshell Box. Artist Monograph. As New/No Jackets - As Issued. np (18pp) + np (18pp) + 8pp. Two individually bound 110 ½ x 13 ½" nine-sheet leporellos printed by color offset lithography recto only, 18 color illustrations. Designed by Chuck Close and Nina Holland. "The idea of a book without words had resonance for Chuck Close. As a child, his severe dyslexia stood in the way of reading, making images all the more important. He remembers a visual encyclopedia from his early years and the feeling of being overtaken by the intensity of its pictures. The idea also resonated with his ongoing interest in revealing the process of his work, which he accomplishes largely through visual presentation, using very few words, if any. "Scribble Book" is a self-portrait that emerges step-by-step out of the printing process, one plate and one color at a time. The viewer follows a series of nine individual plate proofs - volume one - along with a corresponding series of nine progressive proofs - volume two. By comparing the plate proofs against the progressives, the viewer may ascertain not only the effect as one color is added to another to create the final nine-color portrait, but also the compositional decisions and careful modifications made by the artist at each stage of the project. A similar work was made with twelve plates and included in the exhibition "Chuck Close Prints: Process and Collaboration" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2004 and was an immediate success. "Scribble Book" is presented in this deluxe edition as two accordion-fold books. The first shows the series of plate proofs, and the second the series of progressive proofs, culminating with a nine-color self-portrait. For those seeking a more detailed understanding of the process, these books are accompanied by a separate text in which the artist gives a personal account of his drawing process as recorded through printmaking." A brand new, pristine NUMBERED (65/100) AND SIGNED example of the 2017 first deluxe edition this exquisite undertaking consisting of three volumes in a silkscreened clamshell box limited to one hundred copies. 3-944630-00-9 Inventory Number: 026507
