VERVE REVUE ARTISTIQUE ET LITTERAIRE VOL.VIII, NOS. 35 ET 36: HENRI MATISSE - LES DERNIER OEUVRES / THE LAST WORKS 1950-1954

(MATISSE, HENRI) (VERVE). Matisse, Henri. Pierre Reverdy & Georges Duthuit. E. Teriade, Editor. Paris: Editions De La Revue Verve, 1958. First Edition. Folio. Illustrated Boards. Artist Monograph. Very Good/No Jacket. np (184pp), profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Cover by Henri Matisse with forty color lithographs. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Text in French. This combined thirty-fifth and thirty-sixth number of Teriade's legendary artistic review "Verve" is a monograph devoted solely to the work of Henri Matisse. Realized in 1958 under the direction of Teriade with the master printers Mourlot Freres creating front and rear covers specially designed by the artist for the project, a color lithographic frontispiece, and the vivid color plates. Included are gravure reproductions of drawings and collages executed by the aging artist between 1950 and 1954 along with a facsimile of a brief holographic text by Matisse. An internally bright, most handsome example of this spectacularly lovely and fragile item lacking its dust jacket showing a slight crimp to the upper foredge tip of the front board along with a half-inch crack to the orange paper near the head of the spine where it joins the front board. It has been priced accordingly. Inventory Number: 026189
