Artists' Book. As New./As New.. np (136pp) + np (4pp), profusely illustrated in color. "Mud Book" - subtitled "How to Make Pies and Cakes" - is the whimsical artist's book collaboratively produced between the renowned late American avant-garde composer John Cage and textile designer and artist Lois Long that was twenty years in the making. A tribute to the "proto pie", this exquisite little book was printed on a continuous leporello by hand-pulled silkscreen by Simca in Japan. A brand new, most handsome example of the 1983 Callaway Editions and David Grob Editions first printing (cited on pages 68-69 of Giorgio Maffei and Fabio Carboni's "Sound Pages: John Cage's Publications") limited to five hundred copies NUMBERED (176/500) AND SIGNED "John Cage" and "Lois Long" in pencil on the front free endpaper in the publisher's unprinted glassine dustwrapper and tan cloth chemise with closures, as issued.
