FORM AND RE-FORM: A PRACTICAL HANDBOOK OF MODERN INTERIORS BY PAUL T. FRANKL
Frankl, Paul T.. New York: Harper & Brothers, 1930. First Edition. 8vo. Gilt-Stamped Cloth. Decorative Art Monograph. Good +./No Jacket. 209pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. "Form and Re-Form " is noted interior designer Paul T. Frankl's prescient 1930 primer for the budding modernist interior designer. Possessing a striking art deco design format, it is a forward looking survey of many of the Century's protean architectural and design talents. Beyond a slew of Frankl's own work, included here are examples of projects by Richard J. Neutra, Kem Weber, Frank Lloyd Wright, Pierre Chareau, Donald Deskey, Josef Hoffmann, Raymond Hood, Frederick Kiesler, William Lescaze, Winold Reiss, Gilbert Rohde, Joseph Urban, and many others. Its photographic contributors include Ruth Bernhard, Therese Bonney, Anton Bruehl, Willard D. Morgan, Edward Steichen, Ralph Steiner, and Paul Strand. An internally most handsome example of this significant reference bearing the elegantly designed, deco-inflected bookplate of noted architect A.B Gallion. It is lacking its rarely-seen dust jacket and showing some wear and sunning to the black cloth spine, but the brilliant gold gilt-stamping to the front and rear covers remains bright. It has been priced accordingly. Inventory Number: 024299
