ELVIS AT GRACELAND
(EGGLESTON, WILLIAM). Brixey, Ken, Twyla Dixon & William Eggleston. Memphis, TN: Cypress Press, Inc. (exclusively for Graceland Division of Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc.), 1983. First Edition. 4to. Pictorial Wrappers. Photography Monograph. Near Fine.. 64pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Published in 1983 as the official souvenir guide sold in the Graceland gift shop, this curious publication features then newly-commissioned color images of Elvis' palatial estate by Memphis' preeminent art photographer, William Eggleston. "Elvis at Graceland" combines Eggleston's ironic views with vintage photographs - all interwoven with a biography of The King and his castle. Due to the widow Presley's alleged displeasure with its truly horrifyingly ugly design, it had only the single printing and was never republished once its initial run sold out. Despite the book's commercial failure, the photographer went on in 1984 to issue eleven of these images as dye-transfer prints for his highly acclaimed "William Eggleston's Graceland" portfolio. A bright, most handsome example of this uncommon item (cited on page 28 of "From Fair to Fine: 20th Century Photography Books That Matter") showing some unobtrusive light wear and creases to its covers. 0-9613012-0-1 Inventory Number: 024191
