"Conversations with the Dead" is Danny Lyon's moving 1971 monograph cum artists' book that juxtaposes seventy-two of his gritty photographs of daily life within the Texas Prison system with the drawings and journal excerpts from inmate Billy McCune, whom he befriended during the process of making the book. A bright white, most handsome copy of the 1971 hardbound second printing (cited on page 19 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume II", pages 278-279 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book", page 48 of "From Fair to Fine: 20th Century Photography Books That Matter", pages 210-211 of "The Book of 101 Books", and pages 53-54 of Fred Ritchin and Carole Naggar's "Magnum Photobook: The Catalogue Raisonné") bearing the BOLDLY SIGNED AND DATED PRESENTATION "To Henry, Thanks a million for the lens - Danny 4/75" from the photographer to the late Hollywood cinematographer (and prolific photography book collector) Henry Minski in blue crayon across the entire front pastedown. 0-03-085068-1 Inventory Number: 022023
