First Edition. 4to. Printed Wrappers. Exhibition Catalog. Very Good. 388pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. This is the extensive catalogue published in conjunction with the landmark 1971 Los Angeles County Museum of Art exhibition entitled "Art and Technology". It chronicles in detail the massive four year Maurice Tuchman-curated project that attempted to pair innovative contemporary artists - many Southern California-based - with technology and manufacturing corporations. Due to a number of considerations, only a fraction of these potential collaborations came to fruition. The artists that submitted proposals were Stephen Antonakos, Avigdor Arikha, Michael Asher, John Baldessari, Iain Baxter, Larry Bell, Max Bill, Ronald Bladen, George Brecht, James Lee Byars, Anthony Caro, John Chamberlain, Christo, Ron Cooper, Francois Dallegret, Ron Davis, Walter de Maria, Mark di Suvero, Jean Dubuffet, Jean Dupuy, Oyvind Fahlstrom, Dan Flavin, Sam Francis, Hans Haacke, Newton Harrison, Erich Hartmann, Robert Irwin, Donald Judd, Aleksandra Kasuba, Ellsworth Kelly, Philip King, R.B. (WILLIAMS, DANNY) (WARHOL, ANDY). Robinson, Esther B., Director. A WALK INTO THE SEA: DANNY WILLIAMS AND THE WARHOL FACTORY (DVD). New York: Arthouse Films, 2006. 8vo. NTSC DVD in Plastic Case. Documentary Film. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. 92 minutes, in color and b&w + extras. "A Walk Into the Sea: Danny Williams and the Warhol Factory" is director Esther Robinson's personal inquiry into the truth behind her Uncle Danny Williams' mysterious 1966 disappearance. Virtually unknown today, Williams was Andy Warhol's lover and a promising young filmmaker. The discovery of twenty never-before-seen films Williams made during his time at the Factory - and whose many subjects include Andy Warhol, Edie Sedgwick, Paul Morrissey, Brigid Berlin, Billy Name and what may be the earliest known footage of the Velvet Underground - reveals a luminous talent and a stark gap in the historical record. Combined with Robinson's intimate interviews of surviving Factory members, the film gets beyond the icons and quietly dismantles the Warhol myth-making machine, allowing a deeper examination of the human fragility on which Andy Warhol's empire was built". A pristine copy of this DVD in letterbox format still in the manufacturer's shrinkwrapped plastic case. Inventory Number: 018978

(WEBER, BRUCE). Weber, Bruce, Nan Bush & Nathaniel Kilcer, Editors. BRUCE WEBER: ALL - AMERICAN V: IS LOVE ENOUGH?. New York: Little Bear Press, 2005. First Edition 1/4000. 4to. Linen Taped Wrappers. Photography Monograph. As New. np (140pp), profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Art Director - Raul Martinez. This is the fifth, lavishly produced Bruce Weber "All-American" limited edition - "Is Love Enough?". "The provocative question posed by the title frames this book's thematic exploration of human devotion in its many forms. The centerpiece of this year's volume is a timely photo-essay devoted to the US Marine Corp. This chapter, titled "Marines Don't Hug," includes original portraits by Bruce Weber of Marines preparing for duty on the base at Camp Pendleton. The chapter also includes extensive profiles of Sgt. Nick Popaditch, a Marine wounded in Baghdad, and Cpl. Jeff Boskovitch, who was killed in action in Iraq this summer. Devotion to a cause is echoed thematically in "A Mississippi Freedom Fighter," a chapter honoring the life and work of civil rights activist Winson Hudson. Her story also highlights the importance of religious faith in the political activism of the 1960s. The significance of religious faith in American culture as a whole runs throughout "The Last Crusade," a career-spanning portrait of Reverend Billy Graham. This chapter presents unique archival photographs from the Billy Graham Evangelical Association, as well as original reportage photos taken by Bruce Weber at Graham's convention this summer in Flushing Meadow. An abiding theme in the All-American series is artistic passion, this year exemplified in chapters that celebrate the work of rodeo photographer Louise Serpa, pulp fiction master Mickey Spillane, playwright Tennessee Williams, and painter Fairfield Porter. The Louise Serpa chapter "There's Nothing Like a Dame With a Camera" includes an autobiographical essay of this true American original. "One Tough Guy - Mickey Spillane" pairs intimate family portraits by Peter Stackpole and Genevieve Naylor with the author's own inimitable prose. Unique insights into the life and process of the great American playwright are revealed in a conversation between theatre and film writer Mike Steen and Geraldine Page, an actress known for her interpretations of many great Tennessee Williams roles. And love of family, friends and art converge in the chapter "Fairfield Porter and Friends." Paintings by the artist are accompanied by original photography, essays and poetry by Anne Porter, James Schuyler, Frank O'Hara and Rackstraw Downes. The wonderful complexity of human relationships that characterize the Fairfield Porter chapter are paralleled in a whimsical chapter titled "The Marriage of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton." Comprised entirely of photographs from Henry Grossman's archives, this chapter shows the original larger-than-life Hollywood super-couple in some of their most tender and down-to-earth moments". As with all of Bruce Weber's books, the quality of the design, paper and printing is impeccable. Not unlike the previous books, there will be only one printing of this title. (WEBER, BRUCE). Weber, Bruce, Nan Bush & Nathaniel Kilcer, Editors. BRUCE WEBER: ALL - AMERICAN VI: LARGER THAN LIFE. New York: Little Bear Press, 2006. First Edition 1/5000. 4to. Linen Taped Wrappers. Photography Monograph. As New. np (192pp), profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Art Director - Gustaf Torling. Creative Director - Douglas Lloyd. This is the sixth, lavishly produced Bruce Weber "All-American" limited edition - "Larger Than Life". "All-American VI takes its inspiration from fragments and glimmers and discoveries along the way as we sought to answer the nagging query: what does it take to live a great, big life? We heard hints of an answer in the lyrics to a favorite song, whispered in the lines of a forgotten poet - there, off to the side, in the background of the most amazing photograph. And then, in the year of his passing, we found an answer in the irrepressible smile on the face of a kid from Pittsburg who - at an early age - learned the power of dreaming big. The smile in question appears on Burt Todd's face all throughout his chapter in this year's edition of All-American. It's there in the photo with the monks in Tibet, there with his wife Suzie on their wedding day in Pittsburg, there as he wields a sword and sports the traditional garb of Bhutan, there with his traveling buddies in Egypt. A swashbuckling industrialist-adventurer from a bygone era, Burt Todd matched his passion for travel and business savvy with a profound curiosity about the world and a zeal for living life to the fullest. And the fashion, the style, the spirit that comes through in his family's photos - all point to a simple answer: find what you love and make it your life's work. This theme of personal passion - with all of its subsequent challenges and fulfillments - connects each of the subjects in All-American VI. A portfolio devoted to the American mountain climbers Gary Hemming and John Harlin II matches breathtaking photos by prominent alpine photographers - Tom Frost, Royal Robbins, Chris Bonington - with texts that illuminate the intensity of character that drove these two men to great accomplishment. A similarly adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors finds leaps off the pages of a chapter dedicated to Dr. Meg Lowman and her sons. Lowman, a preeminent canopy botanist, shares photos of their adventures together in Belize, Peru, Cameroon and Samoa - coupled with excerpts from her environmentalist writings. The complexity of family dynamics and their effects on our perceptions of the world find expression in several other chapters within the volume: Joseph Szabo's photographs highlight the tenderness and aspiration among siblings; Bruce Weber's profile of professional basketball player Alonzo Mourning - coupled here with an original interview - explores the charitable largess and family devotion of a man best known for his accomplishments on the court. Living a great big life often leaves little to question. But Bruce Weber's touching portrait of Tarita-Tumi Teriipaia and her grandson Tuki Brando offers an alternate view. As the former lover of Marlon Brando and his grandson, these two gentle souls quietly navigate the complicated legacy left in the wake of this film icon. Weber's photographs, taken in the dreamy landscape of Montauk, NY, suggest the enduring promise of hope that can result from personal strength and perseverance. As with past editions of our journal, All-American VI: Larger Than Life seeks to celebrate the grandeur of personal creativity and the artistic process. But this year's volume takes a varied approach, highlighting the accomplishments of artists and patrons alike. Daniel and Rita Fraad, the prominent collectors of American art, are commemorated in a personal essay by their grandson, who lived among the extraordinary paintings reproduced in this year's volume. Laura Nyro's deeply emotive music is interwoven with photos, written fragments and rarely seen drawings in her own hand. The distinguished American choreographer Jack Cole is remembered in photographs by Marcus Bleckman and Eileen Darby and a personal letter from Chita Rivera. Other larger-than-life talents include poets Naomi Long Madgett, Vievee Francis, Ogden Nash and Howard Bement; photographers Leni Sinclair, Stephen Shapiro, Kevin Thatcher, and the extraordinary painter Kadir Nelson". As with all of Bruce Weber's books, the quality of the design, paper and printing is impeccable. Not unlike the previous books, there will be only one printing of this title. A pristine copy in the publisher's shrinkwrap, as issued. (WEBER, BRUCE). Weber, Bruce, Nan Bush, Nathaniel Kilcer & Matthew Richards, Editors. BRUCE WEBER: ALL - AMERICAN XI: JUST LIFE. New York: Little Bear Press, 2011. First Edition 1/5000. 4to. 1/4 Linen Over Wrappers. Photography Monograph. As New. np (200pp), profusely illustrated in duotone and color. Art Director - Nathaniel Kilcer. ""Just Life", the eleventh installment of Bruce Weber's signature annual journal "All-American" examines individuals whose actions or works reflect a deeply personal pursuit of meaning in an increasingly volatile world. Bruce Weber's own photographs factor prominently in a long-form profile of two American Marines wounded during tours of duty in Afghanistan, as well as chapters on the Oakland Raiders' legendary center Jim Otto, and the documentary filmmaking team of Chris Hegedus and D.A. Pennebaker. The sunny lyricism of "The Carpenters: Two Kids from Downey" and "A Cavalcade of Stars", Bruce's light-hearted ode to matinee idols of the 1960s stand in contrast to a portfolio of the political art of Sister Corita Kent and the heady prose of James Salter's tribute to Irwin Shaw. Stories praising the legacy of Sargent Shriver and the work of a Harlem based homeless advocacy group (with photographs commissioned from our favorite Deanna Templeton) round out this year's line-up". As with all of the "All-American"s, the quality of the design, paper and printing is impeccable. Not unlike the previous books, there will be only one printing of this title. (BYRNE, DAVID). Byrne, David. DAVID BYRNE: E.E.E.I. (ENVISIONING EMOTIONAL EPISTEMOLOGICAL INFORMATION) - WITH A DVD. Göttingen, GERMANY & New York. 1976 (2003).: Steidl & Pace/MacGill Gallery, 2003. First Edition. Oblong Folio. Die-Cut Boards in Slipcase. Artist Monograph. Near Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. 96pp, 96 color illustrations, with a DVD laid in. "For more than a year David Byrne has been employing the ubiquitous sales and presentation program Microsoft PowerPoint as an art medium. "E.E.E.I (Envisioning Emotional Epistemological Information)" is a book of images and essays, plus a DVD which plays five of his PowerPoint presentations accompanied by his own original music. The book component contains a dozen new exploratory texts and a whole lot of bold, graphic images created with the help of the software program's built-in tools and visuals - not to mention the fun of plastic overlays and nifty foldout pages. And you may ask yourself, what is this about? It is about taking subjective, even emotional, information and presenting it in a familiar audiovisual form - using a medium in a way that is different, and possibly better, than for what was intended. It is about appropriating a contemporary, corporate staple and making something critical, beautiful and humorous with it." A most handsome copy in the publisher's printed die-cut slipcase, as issued. (VAN VLIET, DON aka CAPTAIN BEEFHEART) (CORBIJN, ANTON). Van Vliet, Don, Jan Van Vliet, Anton Corbijn & Ben Watson. DON VAN VLIET: RIDING SOME KIND OF UNUSUAL SKULL SLEIGH - DELUXE SLIPCASED EDITION WITH A SIGNED ETCHING. Signed by the Artist - with an Etching. Los Angeles: Artist Ink Editions, 2003. First Edition 1/1500 Deluxe. 4to. Linen Over Boards, Slipcased. Artist Monograph. As New/No Jackets - As Issued. 88 + 96pp, 1 audio CD + 1 DVD, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Designed by Tim Eames. "Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart was a visual artist before he was a musician. As a young child he drew serious accolades for his animal sculptures and was offered a scholarship to study in Europe. His parents declined; and while continuing to create in the visual medium, he turned his attention to music, within ten years forming the first incarnation of the legendary experimental outfit Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band. The following fifteen years are music history. But in 1983 Van Vliet retired from music to pursue painting and drawing, the focus of this extraordinary boxed set. "Riding Some Kind Of Unusual Skull Sleigh" (named after a painting the artist completed in 1987) provides an opportunity to own one of his original, signed color etchings. Executed on paper and cataloged as "Untitled (Self-Portrait)", the work measures 6 5/8 x 9 1/2". The paper itself measures 7 7/8 x 10 1/2". Van Vliet produced only 1,500 copies of the piece, one for each individually numbered copy of this Artist Ink Edition. A deluxe 9 1/4 x 12 3/4 x 2 3/4" slipcase carefully houses the etching as well as two museum-quality books, a CD, and a DVD. The first book, entitled "Riding Some Kind Of Unusual Skull Sleigh" (88 pages), is a monograph of sorts, containing an essay by art historian Ben Watson and full-color reproductions of sixty of Van Vliet's paintings and drawings - some of them previously unpublished. The second book, entitled "Splinters" (96 pages), features portrait photos of the artist by Anton Corbijn, along with a selection of personal archival material supplied by Don and Jan Van Vliet - including family snapshots, newspaper clippings, drawings, and sketches. None of this material has heretofore been seen. The CD features the artist reading eleven of his previously unreleased spoken-word pieces spanning 1977-1999, which are also reprinted in the Splinters book. The DVD features "Some YoYo Stuff", a 1994 filmed observation by Anton Corbijn. "Riding Some Kind Of Unusual Skull Sleigh is available only as an individually numbered limited edition of 1,500 copies". Cohen, Arthur A.. EX LIBRIS: A SIGNIFICANT REFERENCE COLLECTION OF FORTY-TWO CATALOGUES. New York. 1976-1985.: Ex Libris, First Editions. 8vo. Illustrated Wrappers. Bookseller's Catalogues. Very Good - or Better. np, most profusely illustrated in b&w. New York's Arthur Cohen was the premier purveyor of books and ephemera on twentieth century Modern Art movements for nearly twenty years. Ex Libris' copiously researched, scholarly, illustrated catalogues stood as unparalleled bibliographic tools at a time when there was a paucity of available reference to the documentary literature of the modernist avant-gardes. We are offering a significant collection of forty-two Ex Libris publications including a near-complete run of numbered catalogues comprising: 1 (THE MAJOR MOVEMENTS OF 20TH CENTURY ART), 3 (APOLLINAIRE TO SURREALISM), 4 (OMNIUM GATHERUM), 5 (MAJOR MOVEMENTS OF 20TH CENTURY ART II), 6 (CONSTRUCTIVISM & FUTURISM: RUSSIAN & OTHER), 7 (MAJOR MOVEMENTS OF 20TH CENTURY ART III), 8 (BAUHAUS), 9 (FUTURISM), 10 (DADA ONCE AND FOR ALL), 11 (TENTH ANTIQUARIAN BOOK FAIR), 11 (whose numbering was accidentally duplicated - this is actually 12: BAUHAUS), 13 (LISSITZKY / SCHWITTERS / TSCHICHOLD / WERKMAN / ZWART), 14 (FUTURISM: ITALIAN & RUSSIAN), and 15 (DADA & SURREALISM) along with twenty-eight of the 9 x 4" staple-bound unnumbered and undated Ex Libris offering catalogues: ALL ERNST, APOLLINAIRE / FIRST EDITIONS / FRENCH AVANT-GARDE, ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN, ARTIST'S LETTERS / AUTOGRAPHS / POSTCARDS, THE AVANT-GARDE IN PRINT PROSPECTUS, BAUHAUS, BRETON / DUCHAMP / ERNST, CATALOGUE OF CATALOGUES, DADA AGAIN, DADA NOW AND 4EVER, FUTURISM, GEORGE GROSZ AND GERMAN EXPRESSIONISM, ILLUSTRATED BOOKS OF THE 20TH CENTURY, LISSITZKY / MAIAKOVSKII, MY HEART BELONGS TO DADA, PERIODICALS, PERIODICALS 2, RARAE AVES, RARAE AVES 2, RARAE AVES 4, RARE PERIODICALS: ART & LITERATURE, RUSSIAN AVANT-GARDE RARITIES, RUSSIAN RARITIES, SECESSION / JUGENSTIL / ART NOUVEAU / ART DECO, SELECTED PERIODICALS, 60 RARE PERIODICALS, THE SURREALIST REALM, AND VICTORY OVER THE SUN. It is with one exception a most handsome group of these uncommon documents allowing for the occasional light wear or soiling, speckled top edge of the textblock, or minor annotation here or there. Only catalogue number 6 (CONSTRUCTIVISM...) shows significant condition issues with heavy wear and slight chipping to the covers, a dent to the top of the spine, and curling of the foredge corners of the textblock. (VEZZOLI, FRANCESCO) (GAGA, LADY). Vezzoli, Francesco, Klaus Biesenbach & Donatien Grau. FRANCESCO VEZZOLI PRESENTS BALLET RUSSES ITALIAN STYLE (THE SHORTEST MUSICAL YOU WILL NEVER SEE AGAIN). New York: Gagosian Gallery, 2011. First Edition. 4to. Illustrated Boards. Artist Monograph. Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. 48pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Designed by Goto Design. Francesco Vezzoli's art often embodies celebrity, spectacle, and appropriation, and in this brand new publication "Ballets Russes Italian Style", one gets all three in spades. Presented as the centerpiece of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art's 30th anniversary gala fundraiser in November 2009, Vezzoli's "Speechless" featured Lady Gaga clad in costumes by the artist and Miuccia Prada, a mask designed by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, and a hat by Frank Gehry performing at a Damien Hirst butterfly-adorned Steinway grand piano with members of the Bolshoi Ballet. This stylishly produced tome published in conjunction with the just opened "Francesco Vezzoli: Sacrilegio" at New York's Gagosian Gallery shows the preparatory sketches for the piece, photographs of the Lady in the MoCA galleries and onstage, and the resulting Gaga-centric artworks that "borrow" liberally from Rodchenko, DeChirico, and others. If the ultra-baroque meets Russian Constructivism and Metaphysical painting with a dash of "Poker Face" is your thing, then this is the book for you! (PALEARI, FABIO) (DOHERTY, PETE). Paleari, Fabio & Robert Montgomery. I WON'T GIVE UP: PHOTOGRAPHS BY FABIO PALEARI - DELUXE BOXED LIMITED EDITION WITH A SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. np (272pp), profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Text in English. Designed by Juan Gallego. "Any follower of the international tabloids is well-acquainted with rocker Pete Doherty, the former Libertines front man who is now quite famous for his on-again, off-again love affairs with supermodel Kate Moss and crack cocaine. After getting kicked out of the influential aforementioned British post-punk band for his over-the-top-drug use, Doherty started the band Babyshambles in 2005. Though fringe elements of Doherty's incendiary story have been well documented by unauthorized paparazzi, the authorized, inside view has never been available until now. (SMITH, JACK). Jordan, Mary, Director. JACK SMITH AND THE DESTRUCTION OF ATLANTIS (DVD). New York: Arthouse Films, 2007. 8vo. NTSC DVD in Plastic Case. Documentary Film. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. 95 minutes + extras, in color. "Perhaps America's most important artist from the last fifty years, Jack Smith is simultaneously hailed as the godfather of performance art, a groundbreaking photographer, and the 'William Blake of film'. His utopian ideals, artistic processes and bejeweled artworks left no generation untouched since, and became essential influences to contemporary art superstars like Andy Warhol, Federico Fellini, and Matthew Barney. In her feature-length film debut, director Mary Jordan combines Smith's rare and unseen films and photographs with rare audio recordings, acting appearances, and other relics squeezed from Smith's vaulted archives. Commentaries from art luminaries, critics and Smith's friends and enemies such as George Kuchar, Ken Jacobs, Tony Conrad, Sylvere Lotringer, Judith Malina, Jonas Mekas, Mario Montez, Ronald Tavel, John Waters, John Zorn, Agosto Machado, Andrew Sarris, Ari Roussimoff, Billy Name, Ela Troyano, Gary Indiana, George Kuchar, Helen Gee, Henry Hills, Maria Montez, Andrew Sarris, Holly Woodlawn, Ira Cohen, Ivan Galietti, Jerry Tartaglia, John Matturri, John Vaccaro, Lawrence Rinder, Mary Woronov, Mike Kelley, Nayland Blake, Nick Zedd, Richard Foreman, Robert Heide, Robert Wilson , Taylor Mead, Tommy Lanigan-Schmidt, Uzi Parnes, and William Niederkorn) intercut Smith himself proffering condemnations of capitalism, critics and institutional-art "gatekeepers". Jordan also delves into Smith's tenuous relationship with Andy Warhol - who adopted Smith's ideas and actors in his own work (including Smith's "Superstars" concept), his vilification of New American cinema pioneer Jonas Mekas, and other previously undocumented biographical topics. From the Whitney to the Louvre, Smith is acknowledged as one of America's most influential artists, yet his legacy remains at the edges of obscurity. Pure in his artistic pursuits, Smith smashed head-on into the politics intersecting creativity, capitalism, and meaning in contemporary art. Since his 1989 death, Smith's work has been rarely publicly displayed. Still his influence pervades contemporary art and pop-culture today. This documentary portrait pays homage to New York's ultimate anti-hero and the original King of the Underground". A pristine copy of this DVD in letterbox format still in the manufacturer's shrinkwrapped plastic case. Inventory Number: 018984

(VAN HAMERSVELD, JOHN). Van Hamersveld, John. Dave Clucas, Editor. JOHN VAN HAMERSVELD: MY ART, MY LIFE - SIGNED HARDBOUND EDITION LIMITED TO TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY COPIES. Signed and Numbered by the Artists. South Bend, IN: St. Augustine's Press, 2010. First Edition 1/250 Deluxe. 8vo. Cloth in Illustrated Jacket. Artist Autobiography. As New/As New. 234pp, illustrated in b&w and color. Artist turned Art Director John Van Hamersveld is responsible for some of the most iconic graphic images to emerge from California in the sixties and seventies. Raised in the surfing community of Palos Verdes, his teenage adventures with Mickey Dora, Dale Velzy, John Severson and childhood pal Rick Griffin led to his becoming the graphic designer for "Surfer" and "Surf Guide" Magazines at the height of the "Gidget" and Beach Party craze. In 1964 he created the timeless Day-Glo one-sheet for Bruce Brown's genre-defining film "The Endless Summer". After a stint at the famed Chouinard Art Institute, Van Hamersveld went on to design the Pinnacle Concerts posters for Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Velvet Underground, and many others as well as create striking album packaging for The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, The Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour", The Jefferson Airplane's "Crown of Creation", Bob Dylan's "Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid", The Grateful Dead's "Skeletons From the Closet", and most notably The Rolling Stones' classic "Exile on Main Street". "My Art / My Life" confidently recounts Van Hamersveld's autobiographical experiences alongside many of the most interesting Surfing, Art (lots of Andy Warhol anecdotes!), and Rock 'n' Roll personalities of the period - albeit in a sometimes frustratingly disjointed spelling, grammar and continuity be damned manner - and establishes once and for all his place in the pantheon of graphic design history. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. 128pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. "During the winter of early 1991, Time magazine sent Kenneth Jarecke on a three-month assignment to Saudi Arabia, where he covered the allied war effort in the Persian Gulf. He would eventually spend time on patrol and cover combat duty with the U.S. Army's 18th Airborne Artillery Corps. His photograph of an incinerated Iraqi soldier, made on Highway 8 north of Kuwait City, stirred a storm of controversy. American editors refused to run it during the war, citing its extremely visceral nature. Gradually, through its appearance in French and British publications, American magazines noticed it, and it started to appear more widely in the United States, first in American Photographer, and then in Time's year-end issue. In January 1992 it was awarded the Leica Medal of Excellence. It remains one of the photographic icons of the Gulf War". Featuring a text by legendary X vocalist and poet Exene Cervenka, "Just Another War" is photojournalist Jarecke's self-published, gritty and moving visual diary of the combatants and carnage of the first Gulf War.
