ND (1940).: Self-Published, First Edition. 12mo. Cardstock Postcard. Exhibition Announcement. Very Good. One 5 1/2 x 4 1/4" cardstock sheet printed by hand recto only, no illustrations. This is an announcement designed and printed by hand by Man Ray that was sent to friends and prospective collectors inviting them to a short-lived private viewing held at his Hollywood studio in January of 1941. On display was Man Ray's newly revised version of his 1938 masterwork "Portrait Imaginaire de D.A.F. de Sade" - the original having been left behind when the artist hastily fled Paris following the German occupation at the outbreak of World War II. The text is in the artist's hand in black ink on terracotta-colored cardstock, and reads "Man Ray is showing his imaginary portrait of a Frenchman of the eighteenth century - in his new studio - 1245 Vine Street Hollywood from 3 to 5 until January 13". This is accompanied by Man Ray's hand-stamped woodblock cartouche bearing the initials MR in black ink.
