First Edition 1/125 Deluxe. Small 4to. Boards in Slipcase. Artist
Monograph. Near Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. 121pp, 95 b&w illustrations.
Designed by Joseph Simon. With a chronology, exhibition history and
bibliography. This was the very first monograph on the celebrated Los
Angeles African-American artist Charles White. Published in conjunction with
his longtime dealer Benjamin Horowitz' Heritage Gallery, this presents a
comprehensive survey of over forty years of the artist's moving works on
paper illuminating the black man's struggle in the New World. This is from
the edition of one hundred and twenty-five slipcased copies (numbers
126-250) SIGNED by Charles White in black ink at the colophon. This is
separate from the additional one hundred and twenty-five copies (numbers
1-125) that were accompanied by an original lithograph. A most handsome copy
in the publisher's slightly soiled tan paper over boards slipcase that shows
a separation along one joint, and a small tear along the spine.
